What'd you tap for the daytime light on the gauge?

I used these three links to help--

I tapped right into the wires going into the fuse box. I'm sure there is an easier way, but whatever...

Your shiftboot is an acid trip
Actually, it's the colors that represents my gang. I'm so 'hood! Bandana representin'...

LOL, thanks man!

I'm thinking the funky kinda green thing photoshop thing looks cool...I wouldn't go gold, if your gonna go other then the green then stay with the black on black..my 2 cents.

Yeah, try another PS of a different gold, Chipmunk. I still say gold would look sweet. But it's up to you, brotha! And I see you're going with the coilovers, eh? Why did you decide on that isntead of springs/struts?

My photoshop skills aren't all that fantastic. Getting actual gold on a black wheel is a little beyond my skills, I think...I still am leaning towards doing them black, but the best thing is it will be easy to repaint them quickly gold whenever I want! MUAHAHAHA!

I have decided on coilovers--basically go big or go home--or, in the words of Charlie Sheen: BRING IT! I am WINNING! I emailed a contact at SU about getting a good price on BCs, but never heard back this week. I will contact their general sales inquiry next, and just move from there, because I need these within the month!

Here is a picture of a black 3 with gold OZs--mine would have red calipers:

I still think your better off with black on black or something other then GOLD, it's SO yesterday, or shall we say Subaru??

Yeah, because we never see black MS3's with black wheels. I still say gold. haha

At this point, I think I am done trying to work on my car. No more aftermarket parts, and probably going to return to stock as much as possible. I am just so frustrated at this point. I will try and keep this story as short as possible:

First, my OZ Ultraleggera's came with 225/35-18 tires on them. I took them to Quality Automotive in Medina to have them removed. They could not do it, claiming the sidewall was too low-profile. I took them to Motomotion, who removed them without issue. Total cost: $36

I purchased 4 used Kumho Ecsta SPTs in 225/45-18. I performed some cosmetic repair to curb damage on the OZs and prepped them for paint. I put them in primer, thinking I could have the tires mounted and then shoot paint (to avoid chipping / scratching). Total cost: $100 tires, $10 primer

I took the Kumhos and my OZs back to Quality Automotive. They had been able to put 2 new Cooper Zeon ZPT tires in 215/45-18 on my OEM wheels when I first purchased the car. I figured they could do 225/45-18 on an 8 inch wide wheel. I was wrong. They could not. Off the wheel / tire combo goes to MotoMotion, to get mounted and balanced.

Motomotion calls me first thing this morning. Here is somewhat what the conversation consisted of:

Motomotion: "It looks like someone tried mounting one of these tires. Did you take these somewhere else first?"
Me: "Yes, I tried a different shop first, they told me they couldn't do it."
Motomotion: "They ripped the inside tire bead on the machine."
Me: "That doesn't sound good. Is the tire useless?"
Motomotion: "Yeah, the tire is no good. If you can get another, we can still mount these. Let me know what you want to do."

I picked the wheels and tires up tonight, still not mounted. Now I only have three good tires. Motomotion quoted me at $152 a tire for Hankook Ventus V12 and $10 a tire for mounting. Total cost would be $648 + tax. I've already spent $146 and gotten nowhere. What a waste.

Changing pace, SU still does not have BC Coilovers in stock. They keep telling me "the end of this week." That being said, I am out of time to order those.

I'm not so sure what my options are. I have no money to spend, and currently do have a set of OEM wheels with All-Season tires that still roll, thankfully. I have a lot of maintenance coming up and no money to perform it. If you've read this far, I commend your reading habits. Here is what I am thinking:

1. Sell the OZs. What is nice is I can paint them any color you'd like!
2. Purchase two new OEM rear shocks to replace my leaking ones. Pray the fronts are still good.
3. Paint my stock wheels a more 'normal' color and continue running the all season tires
4. Maybe purchase FD RX-7 wheels with snow tires for the winter, just as a safety precaution. This can wait until half a year from now when I can afford it.

I mean, let's face the facts. My car has 71,000 freaking miles on it and I still owe a lot of money on the loan. I don't need to be doing anything but focusing on paying it off and making sure it gets me from point A to point B everyday. That being said, it looks like track days and fun road trips are out of the question for this summer. I will do my best to keep updated on here. If you have suggestions for me, let me know. But right now this feels a lot like my old Mustang--too much trouble for what it's worth! Sorry about the raging post. Thanks for taking the time to read it.

First. Take the damaged tire to the shop that effed it up and see what they say.
Second. My wheels should arrive tomorrow,(8"as well) and out of patience and lack of $ I may put my 215 all seasons on them. Either way, hang in there.

I think the best decision has been reached. I've thought about it all night...

1. OZ Ultraleggeras 18x8 et48 will be placed for sale. Right now they are in primer, but they will be painted black. If you are interested, let me know (soon!) especially if you want them painted another color. Looking at $800 shipped at this point to get them out of here.

2. If I do not hear from SU by Monday on coilovers, I am replacing rear shocks with OEM from a website I found. $180 total + shipping is not too bad to keep me from leaking oil all over the garage floor.

That means I will be running on the OEM wheels with all season tires for all or most of this summer. I will probably repaint the OEMs a different color--either black, gold, or a different wild color.

So instead of going into my first hyperdrive track day with coilovers and summer tires, I will be riding on OEM wheels, OEM suspension, and all season tires. Fantastic. I'm not sure I am even doing the track day anymore.

jri4, i have four stock tires (bridgestone 215/45s) that I will give you if you want them. Two are at the wear bars, the other two might have a couple thousand miles left on them. they'd at least make good track tires. pm if you're interested.

my other suggestion would be to check out tires-easy.com. They still have the same Kumho Ecsta SPT's that I got a month ago for $104/tire (with shipping it's almost exactly $500 for four tires). I got 235/40/18's to mount on my RX8 rims (also 8" wide), which is the correct upsize tire for our car. The difference in gap between the tire and wheel well is minimal versus the stock 215/45/18, and they are wide enough to offer some serious performance advantage. I have not rubbed at all with the upgraded tire size either. The tires look great, no wheel gap, and you might be able to survive a little while longer on the stock suspension.

Thanks for offering up your tires, but I am not sure it is worth the cost to mount them at this point. I will most certainly check out tires-easy.com--and I would go 235/40 as well, it must look nice on those RX8s. I would've had Kumho Ecsta SPTs, had the idiots not torn one of them. :'(

I hope by Monday that everything has played out and we will see what I end up doing. Look for a for sale thread for the OZ Ultraleggeras in a couple days. Thanks

edit: oh, and I cannot survive any longer on the stock suspension. Now that it is warming back up, my right rear shock is back to leaking oil. A mess all over the floor every morning when I leave...It feels so awkward when driving, too! Every little bump and the back end kicks out or something...

Ordered coilovers tonight. Looks like my blown strut will finally get fixed. I just hope to get them and have them installed plus an alignment by my first day on track April 10th.

^^^ Noice! Glad you got the coilovers, Chipmunk. I'm sure you won't be dissapointed.

Chippy, you should have those idiots get you another Kumho tire.

Yey for coilovers!!!!!!

I agree with Marlon, they should replace the tire if they messed it up.

I have my old ASA's with Parada Spec II's you can borrow if you want 225/40/18, they'll fit on your car, if you do not get a replacement tire.

It looks like I am buying a whole new wheel/tire combo, actually... My OZs sold, and the way pricing works out, I am not taking a huge hit on purchasing new. So I am basically trading my OZs for a "lesser" wheel with brand new tires. I figure that with my driving style I shoudl be able to go a good three summers on a brand new tire. So I am just going to invest the money now and hope it pays off over the long run.

edit: by "lesser" wheel, they are actually lighter than the OZs, which technically might come out as being "greater"...teehee

My biggest issue (but not terrible) is that I may be going to the track April 10th on lime green OEM wheels with 60% tread life All-Season tires. I have to wait until I receive a new credit card (long story....) to order the wheels/tires, which take about a week to ship from tirerack.

Long-story-short: I am pumped for coilovers (big thanks to Marlon and the gang for hooking me up!)

ATTN MARLON: I may take you up on your offer to borrow your extra summer wheels just for that 20 minute track session--although I am sure my all-seasons would up well enough to get me a taste. I am going to do everything I can, however, to have my new set ordered in time. We shall see. Thank you for taking care of us Ohio guys!
