Anyone has this setup? Basically its replacing the cats section (midpipe) and the rest of the exhaust, but keeping the stock mazdaspeed muffler!

Im asking that because I like the sound and the look of the stock muffler :)!

thanks

that will work...
and it will be quite.

are you talking about the masdaspeed (round tip) or racing beat (oval tip) muffler?

The round tip, the one that Mazda put in replacement of the oval one (mine cracked). So basically I wanna keep about the same sound, but open up my exhaust a bit. I was first thinking about just replacing the midpipe section (cats), but why not do the rest for a little extra. Do you think it would worth it even though Im wanna keep my stock muffler? And you think the sound would be about the same?

thanks

I run the corksport exhaust, but use the Stock Mazdaspeed Muffler. The canister Exhaust was a bit too loud, so I put the Stock back on. Sounds great, and I still enjoy most of the performance.

haha, that ****** is loud man!
plus it creates the loudest backfires i've ever heard.....i used to scare the s*** out of MYSELF!
lol
it sounds good though.

i had 3 mufflers and i had a shop do it so that i can swap them easily whenever i felt like having a different muffler.
my 3 inch straight through Carbon/Ti sounded more tame than mazdaspeed one :)

have phun!

the vibrant is an awesome exhaust, all one. Well worth looking into, unless you just really like the oem look.

I've been thinking of doing the same thing. I've got a mam catted midpipe, and I was thinking of running 2.5 inch piping back (no resonator) to the stock muffler. I'm looking for some more sound. But not too loud. For some reason I havent found a cat back that looks appealing to me. Other than the greddy peice. But then I think about the gains for 4 or 5 hundred bucks and that money would be better spent elsewhere.

My friend who has a midpipe as well tells me that just with the midpipe it is relatively loud when you are cruising on the highway. Is it the same for you?

look at my car in the exhaust compilation thread. 2.5"DP-> 3" midpipe and catback. stock muffler and a bit of the stock axle back as it doesnt transition right at the muffler.

And how was it compare to the stock exhaust? A lot louder!?

I replaced the Jpipe and all the way back just keeping the stock muffler. Custom 2.5 SS with highflow Cat, resonator. Sounds just a tad louder than stock but you really notice the gain in power and it's a smoother drive too.

Cool exaclty what Im looking for :)! Do you have a 03 or a 03.5 with the round tip? Also, what about the loudness when youre cruising on the highway !?

thanks

I replaced my entire system with the GHL 3" full turboback stainless exhaust. This is the only true "turboback" exhaust system which includes the S-pipe. I installed it in 3 hours (including S-pipe). It sound great and does not backfire that bad. Yes it is pricey but it has a lifetime warranty and the performance increase is amazing!... just my 2 cents. The less restrictive the airflow is coming out of your engine, the less chance you have of blowing it up.

I have the MAM 2.5 catless midpipe wth the stock cat-back (03.5 oval)and sounds great!!!,deep but not too loud! I'm going to replace the MAM catless midpipe and install the Circuitsports 2.5 catless one, that includes the J-pipe I'll let you know how it sounds, Wingman21

Cool thanks! So that means that a catted midpipe would be a bit quieter?

Anybody has sound clips of their exhaust note?

Probably the catted one will be a little bit quietter. Basically on my car the sound level will be the same with the Circuitsports 2.5 cat-less midpipe all I'm doing is replacing the factory cast-iron J-pipe due to the fact that the MAM 2.5 cat-less midpipe bolts on the factory cast iron J-pipe. Overal it souds great! I'll let you know how the new Circuitsports 2.5 cat-less J-midpipe will sound after i install it!!

not much louder at all. the turbo is a great muffler. the motor is still louder than the muffler to give you an idea. if you want i can send u a mpeg that has a bunch of clips
