Just have a couple of questions about this product. I just recieved mine in the mail and am eager to put it on. I searched the forums a bit and noticed some posts around Oct hinted that some people experienced detonation with this installed and when it was taken off all was ok. I'm just looking for more feedback before I install. In addition anyone have any install pics for reference?

Can you take some pics of the FCD for me ? and perhaps the installation of it? I'm looking at either getting the joe p or going another route. I would just like to see the workmanship.

The FCD will not cause detonation alone, like the disclaimer says, it allows you to run more boost by preventing fuel cut.
If you are leaning the mixture out by running more boost, then you are more likely to detonate. I'd suggest running no more than 12psi on pump gas, anything above that, find some turbo blue or, look for a recipe on the net for homemade race gas using Xyliene, or Toluene.
Higher octane gases help prevent against the harmful detonation.

Its not the FCD, its what the FCD allows you to do!

I dunno if it's possible for these cars to run lean without lowering fuel pressure, or changing duty cycle of the injectors... however, you are most certainly upping cylinder pressures and temperatures, which can lead to detonation.

more boost=more air in the engine... more air in the engine reduces the air/fuel mix. The car doesnt add more fuel when it sees boost. Its why alot of people with MBC's have less hesitation. Theyre taking advantage of all the fuel the car gets.

I will be running no more than 10psi. I bought the FCD since I am getting a lot of cut in these cold days and with winter approaching it will only be worse. The reason why I speculated about the detonation and asking if others experienced the same with the FCD was because of this thread:

Has anyone had any luck with the TurboXS FCD? Seems to be easy to set up the limits without totally bypassing the this safeguard.

A/F gauges arent accurate. And theres a wide range of what is considered lean, rich and stoich.

You are leaning the fuel mixture, yes, but its certainly still rich.

I have the FCD on my car and I am very pleased with it. Thank you Joe. KYRACEFAN is right that A/F ratio gauges aren't super accurate but I'm almost positive that it's running real rich. I'm boosting at 10psi and when I go WOT the gauge shows rich.
