It's Here and ready: Microtech EMS

ah so that handset add on is only 20 bucks?? not bad..i might be interested in buying one from you but the 4 week wait im not so sure...i'll let you know...

Yes it is only an increase of that over having gotten the laptop software... but if you get the handset you will NOT be able to plug a laptop in unless you buy the laptop equipment at a later date... and that would run you about 120ish plus shipping then.

I realize the 4 week wait time is long. But there isn't much we can do about that.. it's Microtech's end that holds us up. The shipping only takes about a week... but it takes them several weeks to build up and configure the unit for the protege's. We eventually hope to have one unit in stock at a time... but there are VERY expensive to have on hand as stock. Then the wait time if you want a "standard" unit would only be a day before it would ship. There are other things we can do to work out the lead time as well... deposits etc may be possible too.

oh no worries i totally understand the wait man, and i might still do it anyhow, because 1) it is around the same price as the e6x maybe a little less, and 2) looks to have more features, i'll talk to my engine builder to see how long he will take with the engine, MAM just shipped out my parts so if i ordered one soon the timing might be good, i'll let you know, ps. looking to sponsor any cars? lol jk, peace.

maybe a stupid question: can the microtech be tuned the same way using the dash unit instead of a laptop? What i mean is, do you lose anything by going with just the dash unit?

actually, that is a good question, not a stupid one :D

I'm 98% sure the answer is no. The reason I'm not 100% sure is i'm not sure if the handunit I tuned with was on a Motec or Microtech previously... Microtech doesn't give dealers a lot more tech info than the general public... my tech info is derived from testing and experience...

I put in an inquiry with my rep thoguh to confirm on that portion, and I'll post accordingly.

Obviously not "seeing" what you are doing is a bit of a downside... but not having to have a laptop is a BIG deal.

I don't know the pricing on the E6X... so I don't know if we are closer or a bunch cheaper or whatever... I had heard that there was some sort of "typical" price of 1400 or better.. so dunno! Juan would be the guy to ask there.

There is alwasys the chance Microtech will be quicker too and we could have it in a matter of 2.5-3 weeks instead. But I figure 4 weeks typically...

yea if i do it, definately going with the laptop myself, i was just curious about the price of the handunit :D

one more thing. I'm sure the answer is no, but: Is the software Mac compatible? Thx

ya i've talked to juan about pricing on the e6x and this looks to be cheaper by a little bit, although when it comes to my EMS im not exactly looking for a cheap way out since im spending so much on a protege, but it just looks like the microtech will be better for what i want(400 +whp) ps. think this unit will be good to tune with nitrous also?

It may actually be as Microtech says : Software is now designed to work on all platforms of OS, EG, Win95, up to XP.

It can be setup to work with it pretty easily. We'd have to work things out as to how you'd wire etc.. but it wouldn't be an issue.

The system even has a Stage 2 feature that allows you to do staged launching (puts "soft cut" rev limiter that is switch activated at wherever you want it... so you floor it, the ECU takes care of the rest until you dump the clutch and release the switch)

any "different" things you guys want to do we will talk over and I'll work out or custom configure with microtech and we can make sure you have exactly what you need in all cases.

yea, i just need it to be tunable for nitrous also, cause i will be spraying eventually, also im sure it will work with bigger injectors (ie. 660s or what have you)

Why oh why!!! LOL.. I'm not fan of nitrous... but I'll help you anyway ;).

And yes it does big injectors and any impedance injector... I run 8 550cc injectors.

well, i'm going to see what she does on boost(probably low 11s with good driving) and if im satisfied then i'll leave it alone...

With a proper motor and a good tune you should see low elevens without issue... You can easily squeeze out over 400 hp with these cars when built right... and 500 may be feasible... trannies and axles will be the issue then. But you obviously need solid management to achieve that! I"ll have dynos of my car in April/May and Keola and Dave will be dynoing about then too... so you'll get to see a good set of what can be done.

yea i got DSS axles, so not worried there, and tranny i am worried about but if it blows ill replace it lol, yea and also my car weighs roughly 2300lbs so my goal is alot easier then with the stock weight :D but ill pm you later sometime about the ems..

I confirmed with Microtech that the handset and dash units can program all features of the Microtech. Nothing is "lost" using one of them. You won't be able to datalogging though as there is no way to display or store it to a hard drive.

Thanks!

Steve
