It was going so good....

Well today I got a ticket. I am normally the type of person that complains a ton, but it was my fault, but I really had no idea it was illegal.

I had my liscense plate in my front window. I got pulled over on I-5 right around tigard by a unmarked portland cop. He was a dick, but most cops are. He pointed at my radar detector and said ," you know what I do when i see those, its a automatic ticket". I told him they werent illegal, and he said he wasent giving me a ticket for that. And my dumbass did not put my new updated insurance card, so i got a ticket for that as well. I was really hoping he would give me a warning about the plate thing, but nope. So i got 2 , $237 fines. I think they are both non moving violations. I have been doing so well for so long. I havent had a ticket in like 2 years. But my record is not squeaky due to the FD I use to have.

I think I am just going to write a letter with a copy of my insurance and send the money and hopefully they will send some money back. I just dont want to wait in a Portland courtroom for all day.

No reason for me to waste my day when I can be making that money back.

Any suggestions?

Sounds like you gotta take it standing up, but you seem to allready know that. Portland cops have realy been pushing their boundaries in the last year.
A friend of mine got nailed by a stock looking metalic grey Mustang GT for 90 in the Terwilliger curves. he said the car had the lights incorporated into the rear taillight section and front bumper. He passed the cop in the corner before the straight into PDX.
BIG Ticket.

yea i always pull my radar down when i get pulled over... esp if your in a modded car. Generally gets a warning instead of a ticket. Cops are dicks and hate it when someone see's them before they see you.

What was the ticket for no proof of insurance? or driving without insurance?

No proof, and the other was for the liscense plate in the window instead of the front bumper. Both 237 a piece.

Never_ender can you enlighten me on how I can get those dismissed. I know if I send in my insurance card, they will most likely get rid of that one, but I dont know what to do on the other one. Usually around in my area they would give you a warning of a fix it ticket.

I dont know. Most cops DO hate when you have a radar detector, but thats usually because it comes across to them that regardless of what the speed limit is, you're "saying" that you wont obey that. Not to say that you'll automatically speed just by having a radar detector, but why HAVE one unless you PLAN on breaking the law and speeding? Thats why people get those.

Anyhow, you should've gotten a warning to fix the two minor things. And this will probably boil your blood more.... but when we pull your registration from the DMV system, it automatically says if you have insurance or not and even gives your policy number and name of your insurance company. In other words, he shouldn't have had to see if you had it with you or not because he already knows if it shows that you're insured. lol

But it is a violation not to have either proof of insurance on your person or having your plate where it may be obstructed from view. I think they'd go for the plate being properly put on the front now rather than now having your card on you. Having your card on you NOW doesnt help you since it needed to be with you at the time. But both arent "moving" violations so points shouldn't be accessed. If each citation is $200+ each, then pay $150 for a lawyer to get it reduced for lesser charges. You still wont have to go to court.

Maybe in NC, but not in Oregon. Unless you have an SR-22 filed with the State.

Yeah i dont think they do that, here, and yes it does suck, I probably will just call them tomorrow, and talk to a clerk. I really dont wanty to pay a lawyer. I dont mind paying 237 for the no liscense thing, but the no proof, I am pretty sure will go away once i show them the insurance card. But IDK, I knew i should have became a lawyer.

IDK what to do, my court date is on the 6th of next month, school gets over on the 4th, and I have to leave on the 5th, to go on a rafting trip down the colorado. So either way i think i will have to pay some amount.

damn that sucks --- how long did you go with the plate in the window?? I have had mine in the window for about 14 months ( knock on wood ) with no probs yet --

good luck man --

thats a given. no ticket is free...even if you get them both dismissed.

Actually.........if you get any ticket "dismissed", no matter what the charge....you dont have to pay a dime. Just grab the paper and tell em to kiss your ass.

Thats what I thought.

Anyone else have some good suggestions??

Put the plate on the front of your car and take a picture of it. Send that along w/the insurance and state that you've learned your lesson and have it in place now. Sort of like the ticket was a "fix-it". It might help!

If you don't want to drill holes on your car, maybe find someone with a similar color P5 and switch the front plate for a few minutes to get the shot. I doubt the state keeps registry of mods on the car, so they probably wouldn't notice if tint or wheels were different...
