Issues with new Mazda Update Toolbox being unusable

Driver Bear

2024 CX-5 Takumi
Both I and my dealer have been unable to update the maps on my 2024 CX-5 due to problems with the Mazda Update Toolbox. Version 2.0.0 of this has been released recently but still does not provide a satisfactory fix. Mazda EU Assistance have advised that the update works, but that the option to backup the existing map should not be used as it is this that causes the corruption my dealer experienced in December 2025. I have not attempted to do this, instead asking the dealer to advise me when they have confirmed successful updates.

My understanding is that this affects all Mazda models using the new maps provided by "HERE", and that hundreds of customers are without updates.

I have a secondary issue of the SD card not being recognised when inserted into a USB card reader adapter - yet the same SD card is recognised when inserted into a laptop with a built-in card reader (somewhat rare these days) such as my dealer's or the one I borrowed from a friend. This applied with Windows 10 and now Windows 11. Can anyone suggest a fix for this?

According with my own MazdaUpdateGlobal Adv tool box, the update comes from this link

MazdaUpdateGlobalAdv

Uninstall your current tool box and try to download it again. Make sure o choose your correct region before download it. Top right corner of the page.

You made me curious so I checked my own SD Card. When I plugged in the card reader, I've got a message saying there were some errors with my card. Right clicked, repaired the card, first step. Do not format it. Right click on Properties, then go to the Tools tab and click "Check" button.

Once that was done, I opened the MazdaUpdateGlobalAdv tool box, the last version. The message popped up right away that my card is not recognizable. So what do I do: I checked the Windows Security. And right there you should find a message saying that it just blocked your SD card, "Protected memory access blocked". You change the settings for the app ( Mazda tool box app) to allow it to access the protected memory ( the SD card). Once you do that, you can use the SD card with the tool box. By the way, as of right now, there is no update for North America. Last map version is 2025Q2.

So, in conclusion, my conclusion: Mazda software runs just fine. Check your Windows Security settings or your antivirus software settings, most likely it blocks the access to the SD card.

My Acronis Ransomware Protection App had to be temporarily turned off in my case for update to run :)

You may want to try temporarily disabling McAfee.
If no good, try opening a PRIVATE WINDOW in your browser.
Try an alternative browser.

Never saw any notice in the Protection History. Tried turning off the McAfee and no luck. When to the lap-top and gave that a try and nothing there either. It's a mystery with Mazda on this.

Mazda needs to clean this up.
There are 3 different map update SW.
I finally realized that MapUpdateGlobalAdv is the correct map update for 2025. Once I installed it the update was easy. I did have trouble finding the installation folder.
They state it takes 360 minutes to backup and do the map update.

I am happy that you have figured it out. Post #2 is a link to the correct map update tool box.

Lucky you. I did the update two days ago and it took me roughly two hours.
the funny thing is I tried to update mine a week or two ago and it would not update it said no update available or something like that.

I just returned last night from a 2500 mile road trip and drivingthru North Dakota the speed limit has recently changed from 75 to 80mph (took the same route august of last year and it was 75mph) and when I would pass a speed limit sign my HUD would show the 80mph for about 5 seconds then go back to 75mph. it drove me nuts. also the speed limit had changed from 55mph to 60mph on a rural road in Minnesota and it did the same thing.it would read the sign and show that for about 5 seconds and then drop down to the old speed limit. In Minnesota a state trooper said he would allow 4mph over but would pull you over at 5 and above over. anyway got home and tried again and it updated and installed in an hour.
