Are you still trying to install the upgrade on a clean hard drive? I am pretty sure the upgrade will require and OS to be on there already.

at this point im just trying to get a goddamned dos prompt with cd support.

a windows 95/98 boot disk would be perfect for that application.. if you have a blank disk try and download a boot disk utility off the update site or somewhere....

Wish I could help more.. im trying to finish an english essay that was due thursday but im too damn distracted by technology and i could care less about the topic of the essay.

i know you can make them in windows, just need to buy some disks tommorrow. if i cant get it to work, i guess ill just take it to a computer shop. i really need either a dos prompt (prolly wont happen since i did a low level format), a bootable cd or boot disk. hopefully the boot disk will work. i dont mind installing win98 then upgradcing to xp afterwards. i just keep gettin an error no matter what bios setting that says cannot find boot media. im not sure about the upgrade disk, but i know for 99.99 percent sure that the win98 2nd ed is bootable.

forget all that crap... copy the i386 directory to your hard drive, then install it from there.

I agree.
I used to do that with NT and 2000. It still works with XP.

i need to be able to get to a dos prompt with some boot disk that will recognize my scsi drives. as i said at least three times already.

Oh... in that case, perhaps this will help:

http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm

Then you could probably download the SCSI drivers, and hit F6 when you start installing Windows (the setup sequence will display a message saying something like "to install RAID or SCSI devices hit F6 now").

Later,

i fixed it today....dont ask why, but i unlpugged my scsi card, then booted, then plugged it back in and voila it worked...
