Now I am just thinking outloud here... This is not a claim nor words of troof.

My Prosport boost gauge has been all wonky lately. I suspect a faulty sender. It's always done some odd things, but now it's really acting up and I plan to replace it.

So as I was researching options (STRI, Maddad, Defi) I came across this on the Maddad site.

"For instance, the Ultra series boost gauge face reads upto 29psi(2bar) so accordingly the Ultra boost gauge comes standard with a full 29psi(2bar) sending unit rather than the 14.5 or 22 PSI units that are the industry norm."

What if the Prosport (and likely others) sending units can only handle that much? Now if our car runs 15.6 stock, and I spike to 20 all day long after each shift... I'm wondering if we are damaging the sender unit over time, causing it to become more inaccurate. Now it is exhibiting very strange behavior after only a year. Just the other day I saw it stick at 8psi as soon as I started the car while I was idle. For peace of mind I checked my dashhawk and I was indeed in vacuum and was not experiencing some odd dangerous blockage, but I digress...

Now I'm not upset with Prosport if this is true. It's not that uncommon that manufacturers put "generous" units on their gauges. It looks attractive and sells products. (i.e. Can your MS6s go 180mph? No, but it sure looks nice on your speedo).

Typically, stock boosted cars do not run in the 15 plus range. I just think cars are progressing at rate similar to computers these days. We just need instrumentation to keep up.

So I was thinking about emailing Prosport regarding the limits of their sender unit, but I doubt they will reveal that information in fear of losing customers, plus I'm a lazy s***.
