Is this fixable?

I bought a 2006 Mazda 6 on Friday. I have a couple of issues with it. It's not because it doesn't work, it's just awkward for these things to happen. Here's what I have a problem with:

1. If I get out of my car, lock it with the lock button on the door, pop the trunk, get out, shut the door and go get my book bag out of the trunk, my panic alarm will go off.

2. When I'm at work, I can look out the door and see my car. If I use my key less entry to unlock the car while I'm still in the building (about 50 feet away from my car) and start walking towards my car, as soon as I go to open the door, it relocks itself.

And lastly,

3. I want the doors to lock when I start driving but they don't. And then if I lock the doors from the inside, it won't let me out of the car without unlocking the door.

Are there ways to fix these "problems"? It's slightly embarrassing for my panic alarm to go off in random parking decks. Well, any help is appreciated! Thanks!

#3 is pretty much stock from what I can tell. gonna take some programming to resolve that one.

#2 - the door relocks if you take so long to get to your car. you don't want to accidentally press the button and your car is unlocked all day long. don't know exactly how long the timer is set for. id' say around 25 - 30 seconds.

#1 - i can't follow your problem. too jumbled. why would you lock your car an dthen open the trunk? explain.

Well, let me try to explain...when I get to school, this is how I get out of my car (I'm not sure why, but it always happens like this):

1. Turn off car, take out key, open door
2. Press trunk button that's inside the car
3. Press lock button that is on the door
4. Get out, shut door and walk around to my trunk

As I'm getting out my bookbag, my panic alarm will sound. This is just a habit I formed with my last car. Of course, it wasn't as sophisticated as the 6...it was a 99 Ford Taurus.

I tried answering this earlier but the server was too busy. Basically, here's the following:

1. The way the alarm system is set up, once you lock the doors it is activated. Even though you have unlatched the trunk the lid is not up high enough for the system to see it as open. That is why when you open it the alarm goes off. You will have to learn to do it the way the system wants you to (eg lock the car after you get in the trunk using the remote, or put your stuff inside the car).

2. What delmari said is correct. You just need to wait to unlock your car until you are closer.

3. Mazda does not have their cars set up to automatically lock/unlock the doors when you put the car in drive or park. As far as I know only GM does that. There may be an aftermarket option if you want this feature, but I can't say for sure. Again you will just have to learn to do this yourself if that is what you want.

Eh, I guess I'll just have to get used to it! And my Ford Taurus would lock when I hit the break for the first time each time I drove it. I really liked that but I guess I'll have to just get used to my Mazda because it's 238094x better than my Taurus. I mean, for one thing, it runs!

no really I don't think there's anything wrong with your alarm, you just need to change your habbit that's all.

3, my old Dodge worked that way. My wife's Hyundai works that way, so I understand where your coming from. Its just somethign you get used to..

nope. we have the latch on the trunk lid itself, so there is no trunk pop option.

I hated the dodge & GM cars that locked in drive. Then they never let you out till you unlocked. I do like the one touch unlocks only the drivers door on the 6. I also like the auto window down, but would really like a way to remotely put them back up. Seems like press & hold again should do it, or even lock & hold.

Calgary, all doors & trunk have to be shut. You have to press and hold the unlock button for about 10 secs. I don't know if it will work without the one-touch-full-up/down set on all windows.

In most of the GM cars, that was programmable. At least it was on my Impala.
I also believe that the door lock when you drive option can be programmed into some of the aftermarket remote start units, check out the Viper series from DEI.
Unfortunately it's not something you can program into the stock Mazda body control comptuer.

You know, I've wondered why the trunk release is on the outside latch for GT 6's with the keyless feature, but on the console and the key fob for the cars without this feature. You'd think that Mazda would keep the trunk releases consistent to keep costs down. I mean - how hard would it be to put a remote trunk release on the keyless fob? For a 30g MSP6 GT, you'd think that remote trunk releases would be standard issue...

Does anyone know the rationale for this?

I wish the MS6 had remote trunk-pop. Makes life a lot easier with 2 armloads of groceries if you don't have to physically unlatch the trunk yourself.

You can fix #3 by going to the dealership. They can reprogram the locking mechanism to lock at 5 mph.

really? do you know if the car unlocks when you turn it off then too?

I have no idea, I hope it does. I need to go to the dealership to get a recall taken care of. So when I get my fan module replaced, I'll have them enable that option, and I'll let you know.
