Is there a ECU chip for the Mazda 2 to add more horsepower as you could for an example a VW GTi.

Yes there is many of them out there, The bets ones I’ve found are in germany but they is a local company that makes one and It’s not a chip but a ref lash and it is like night and day difference. AMAZING. Dynotronics… check them out, their site sucks but give them a call and ask or go to sales and that guy will explain it all.

Totally different animal. There are people who are advertising chip tuning for the Mazda 2, but if you're comparison is to a GTI you're going to be disappointed. With the GTI being a turbo car, there is way more potential gain from chip tuning (Like 50 more Hp and even more torque in some cases)... and because of that, APR and REVO are constantly offering chips with different programs and what not.

Chip tuning a naturally aspirated car yields a lot less power and torque, but the price doesn't change. So your $500 on the GTI would get you a 3 program chip and a gain of 50 Hp and maybe 60 lb-ft of torque. On the Mazda 2, you're probably looking at $400-$500 for a single program tune and a gain of like 15 Hp.

That being said, if you search around, there are a few threads where a guy that calls himself "jmac" claims to have a company that does tuning.

Dynotronics = DPTuning = jmac

They've done a lot with tuning Miata's. Street and racing.

Google 'em.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll be sending some questions Dynotronics way on Facebook.

@MazdaTwo: Thanks for the info, very interesting. Although i wasn't actually comparing the Mazda2 to the GTi but i do understand the differences and that my comparison probably wasn't the best choice. haha

$400 to $500 stinks for 15 more horses but then again 15 more horse on the Mazda 2 isn't a bad thing. :) We'll see.

Should be "reflash." Reflashing your ECU is essentially like loading a different operating system onto a cell phone or computer. You plug in through the OBDII comms port on the left side of the dash and basically install a new computer program onto your ECU so that it mixes air and fuel differently as well as changes where the rev limiter is (and on an Auto Trans it probably can alter shift points).

It's essentially what has replaced "chipping" a car. Like I said earlier, it's more of a bang for the buck issue with non-turbo cars. It is, however, a necessary evil. I wouldn't chip tune/reflash until you have intake and cat-back exhaust at the least. I also wouldn't do a cat-back without a chip tune... but I'm picky.

Yes, but a 6-7 hp CAI is $200+ Its always about $30 a horse. Give or take.<LOL> I would also think that driveability would have improved.

Does the reflash require Premium gas to get the best out of it?

But the car would have to be brought to them correct? I mean they wouldn't send a module would they? (I looked through the website, and couldn't findmuch on the topic)

At this point, you'd have to overnite the ECU back and forth.

My long term plan is to try and find one in a junk yard and get that flashed.

Im thinking about sending my ecu to DP Tuning next month. Would be pretty sweet if they posted a Dyno Sheet for the Mazda 2 with the A/F results. The gains they speak of are almost too good to be true. Most reflashes you can expect 5hp even 10 is pushing it... Maybe our engines are really undertuned from the factory. Also mpg results would be nice too

I've contacted them on Facebook along with a few other people and I've heard nothing back. It's been about month.

How much more does this reflash give?
