MP3 compatibility is one of the mid-year enhancements. The 2008.5 will have the upgraded CD player.

Burned CDs with CD-audio on them work fine, burned CDs with MP3 files will not so far as I know. It sounds like the '08.5 models will have a disc player that will also play CDs containing MP3s.

That is correct. Any y/m Mz3 will play burned audio CD's. The '08.5 model will play Mp3 CD's.

If you already have your car then there is a dealer accessory Mp3/6CD player for about $450.
