is the mazdaspeed muffler for the P5 worth it.

:
02 Mazda P5
What up fellas, im in need of some advice. Here on the local craigslist is a guy sellng a mazdaspeed muffler bolt on for straight out cheap and im wondring if you all recommend this muffler. I have an 02 P5 with cai, header and 2.25 pipping all the way back with a type N1 muffler. Im really am tired of the load ass tone on this one and wonderng if the mazdaspeed one would be a lot better. So what do you all think.

I've heard nothing but good things from P5 owners that have the axleback. If it's cheap and you don't want to hear the constant drone and loudness of your current I would grab it. It got a deep tone but not overly bearing.

Only problem is if I do get it I would have to cut the flange off since the car has a straight pipe, I wouldnt be abel to bolt on.

Other than the flange gasket and two bolts to tighten. Is there anything else I have to do to install it? Is there some welding to do to the hangers on it or no? I just dont have a welder.

Do a search on here...there are different perspectives on the drone especially on the interstate. Some say it's not a big deal and others have gotten rid of it because they couldn't stand the droning at certain speeds. I was about to purchase but after reading numerous threads, I opted to stay with stock for the time being. I drive Interstate regularly and didn't want to deal with the possibility of the car droning.

I am running about the same set up, intake, header, 2.25" piping no flanges, with a N1 exhaust that has been gutted and rewelded. I picked up a brand new mazdaspeed axle back for fifty bucks and a 120 mile drive to pick it up off craigslist. I ordered a 2" flange and gasket online that I am going to have a local muffler shop weld in so I can bolt the axleback in. So I have options down the road. It was going to be the same price to have the axleback flange cut off and welded in less the price of the new weld in flange. The N1 is just giving my car to much attention at low speeds.

Here is the flange I ordered to be welded in so I don't have to cut the mazdaspeed exhaust. I downloaded a db meter app onto my phone so I can get some before and after sound level readings and I am probably going to do a video comparing the two also.

Picked up both from amazon with free shipping $20.53 for the flange $4.25 for the gasket. Part numbers are VIB 1470S for the 2 bolt SS 2" Exhaust Flange and 1455 for the 2 bolt 2" Exhaust Gasket. I want to order a new set of urethane exhaust hangers before I go and have it all installed. This mazdaspeed looks a lot heavier than the N1 can. I would hate to be going around scraping up my fresh exhaust just because of sagging hangers. I already scrape enough on my own.

Well after having it roll around my trunk for almost two weeks I had mine installed at Midas. They cut the old one out had to get my pipe adapted down to the 2" flange welded the flange in and bolted the mazdaspeed in all for $52 ! I was rolling out within an hour of arriving. The mazdaspeed has almost the same tone as the N1 but a lot more mellow in the lower rpm's 1000-3000 range. And is not as raspy or tin sounding, It will rasp lightly if you mash down on the accelerator quickly taking it up past 4000rpm's.A cleaner sound overall, I am very pleased with it.

Ok I also did mine last sunday. I ended up going to the local junk yard and purchased the mid pipe. swapped out the aftermarket pipe for the stock pipe, I really do enjoy the sound starting from low gears to on the highway. But I feel theres alot of lagg, not to sure if it is cause cause I switched the mid pipes. What do you all think could make this lagg.

I've got the racing beat one on my car which is who made the mazdaspeed version for the sedans, only difference is the tail pipe and how long it is, the sedan version is longer and sticks out the back more. I can tell you that I love that exhaust. doesn't rasp at all when under normal driving conditions and is very pleasant on the highway!!! You only ever really know that I have an exhaust when I get on the accerator. Anyone thinking of this exhaust, I can tell you it is one of the best systems I've ever had. My probe had a universal can (sucked) and then a pacesetter axel back and they both were very drone-y compared to the mazdaspeed racing beat one.

I did not suffer from any lag. However I did just finish clearing all my CEL problems. I had to space out my second O2 sensor to make it think that I have a cat. Removed and cleaned the carbon out of my EGR to help out with the erratic idle, and had to splice in an intake temp sensor donated from a 96 protg because the previous owner cut it out completely. So now I am running smoother and my idle kicked up from about 600 rpm's to 800 rpm's its not sounding like it wants to shut off anymore. How much of the mid pipe did you install? I only had to add about 2" of 2" pipe for mine to step down for the flange.

Number 6 is what I replace for the stock one. The resonator was cut off and pipe were replaced with 2.25 of pipping all the way to the n1 muffler.

You want to know what sux's more than a universal exhaust, a gutted universal. This exhaust screamed rice when you hit the accelerator.

I would not think that it would give you lag. If you are running a turbo set up then yes you would need a more free flowing exhaust tubing than stock. I took mine on a 300mi trip yesterday and I am not noticing any difference in performance from the old set up. Only tone differences.

I had a fart can on my civic for 1 day, it was so loud I couldn't stand to drive it. And that was just a cat back. Even with a 4-2-1 header 2.5" piping no cat, eBay resonator and chambered muffler it still wasn't as loud as the fart can with stock header and cat. Not by any means saying it wasn't loud. I'm still wondering how everyone else does it
