Is the CX-90 Really that Bad? Owner Feedback?

So I have 2 questions. One I noticed that no one owns the very basic turbo select inline 6. Is it not good? Second I went through 6 different dealer websites and they all sell the zurich vsc . Is it better than the mazda one, does anyone know if they sell the mazda ones online like they do with other makes.

I'd recommend sticking with warranty offered by Mazda only. I believe Toyota Financial Services now handles Mazda's warranty sales, and yes you should be able to buy the warranty online or over the phone via any Mazda dealer in your country.

The standard inline-6 is a good motor, it's just a detuned version of the same motor with lower HP/TQ. If desired, there are tuners out there who can provide tunes that basically put it on par with the "high output" engine. Burger Motorsports, DRTuned, Mazdasauce, etc.

@sm1ke Do you know of any dealers that sell the mazda extended confidence online and are willing to provide prices via email like the other manufacturers do.

This applies to the CX-90 in general, however for acceleration, I’m mainly concerned about the Inline 6 versions, as that’s what I’m probably more prone to purchasing rather than the PHEV, however, the other criteria should still apply to the CX-90 in general.

After watching a combination of savagegeese’s review as well as stuff that I’ve read from Reddit/other forums there seems to be somewhat of a consensus of the CX-90’s annoyances/frustrations.

Some issues that I’ve seen pop up consistently while lurking forums:

-Mazda i-active sense features frequently malfunctioning: is it really that annoying/frustrating(constant false positives, over-reactive, radar cruise control too sensitive, etc.)?

-Acceleration(for the I-6): is it as laggy, jerky, hesitant as they say? From a stop? Also laggy/jerky while trying to overpass on the highway? How bad is the alleged acceleration lag? Is the drive train(lots of users seem to hate the transmission's tuning) that bad?

-Body build: I hear a lot of complaints about the door shut feel, that it feels cheap/shudders a lot. Does this seem to affect NVH(Noise, Vibration, Harshness) while driving? Is it relatively comfortable inside the cabin for you and your family?

Is this really the case? Can you relate in your experience of ownership with the CX-90? Do you have buyer's remorse/regret with the CX-90?

As of today, have some of these issues been resolved(I heard there were software updates since the debut of the CX-90)? Would you recommend the CX-90 after some time of ownership?

TIA.
I just had a CX-90 rental in New Brunswick not too long ago. Thing was fast! I didn't notice a delay and the i-active sense worked exactly like my CX-30 at home. I had no issues.

I have a CX-70, which I assume is the same as the CX-90 as far as the annoyances I've found, which are all firmware-related.

If using Driver Personalization, it sometimes won't recognize you, and the screen for selecting your profile goes away quickly, so then you have to get into the settings to choose your profile. Also, if my 5'7" wife was driving the car, the seat is in her position. I have to squeeze in before it will recognize me and move the seat back. That is ridiculous.

I've had Android Auto just go away for no apparent reason, then be unable to reconnect to my phone until I shut the car off and restart it.

The interaction between Mazda infotainment and Android Auto leaves a lot to be desired. If you want to switch out to Mazda to, say, select a Sirius XM channel, it is confusing and difficult.

In general, the software seems to be rather laggy.

The wireless charger keeps turning on and off while driving, even with i-Stop turned off (hopefully Lee Zeldin will make good on his promise to remove that mandate, and there will eventually be a firmware update to allow us to permanently disable i-Stop).

I have on occasion noticed an unacceptable lag when hard accelerating. That is not the time to have a lag, as you are likely trying to get into busy traffic.

Yes I agree, that's pretty unintuitive. I would hope that future MYs would be configured so that seat position (fore/aft) would be tied to the keyfob - the seat should automatically move into the set position of whoever unlocks the car. Or, the car should have an easy ingress/egress option that moves the seat back when the car is unlocked, and when the engine is shut off.

Why would the wireless charger have any connection to iStop? The Mazda (and some other brands) wireless chargers seem to be prone to overheating. That's why they turn off.

It's weird that they don't! My CX-50 has the seat and mirror positions tied to the keyfob(s), but you do have to program the fobs to the positions yourself. Maybe that step is what's missing here?

You can program the seats positions to the keyfob. That way when you unlock the car with your keyfob, the seats will adjust to your position when you open the door.

It will adjust the following:
  • Driver's seat
  • Active driving display
  • Outside mirrors
  • Steering wheel (Power type

Check the manual in the front seat section to learn how to program the seats to the keyfob

It is, just like in the CX-9, but you need to set it up first.

Here is the procedure: At step 4 you press the unlock button on the fob instead of the memory button

memory switch and the key.

Programming

  1. Switch the vehicle power ON.
  2. Adjust the following driving positions to the desired positions.
    • Driver's seat
    • Active driving display
    • Outside mirrors
    • Steering wheel (Power type)
  3. Continue pressing the SET switch until a sound is activated.

This is neat! I know the Nissan Murano Platinum had the power type steering wheel with memory but I didn't know this was available on the CX-90. Great when you have two persons driving the vehicle, typically husband & wife. All you have to do is adjust the rear view mirror!
