Is it worth it to fix the ribbon cable on the stock deck?

Hello all,

My car has 78K miles on it, and the buttons and lights stopped working. Then the faceplate goes half way down and stays there. If I remove the face, the little carrier folds back up into the deck. If I put the face back on, it just folds back out again.

From what I've read it's not too big a deal to replace the ribbon cable. I just wonder what else could go wrong in the future with the motorized mechanism etc..

I have a decent Pioneer deck that could go in instead, but I don't mind the stock one, and already have the connector cable for MP3 players.

Anybody have any insight on whether I should keep the stock deck and fix it? Or will something else fail in the near future and I should just use the Pioneer deck instead?

Any comments would be welcome.
Thanks, Jer

did you happen to try the reset button on the faceplate? Just want to make sure before you go through all the trouble.

No, I haven't. I guess I'm not familiar with doing that. Can you explain or point me to a thread perhaps?

I suppose it would be good to at least try it before I throw money at it.

on the faceplate you will see a very small (clear) button kinda to the right of the "wheel" (i think) just push that in w/ a paperclip or something while the faceplate is attached to the HU and that should work.

If i had a pic of the faceplate i could circle where it is exactly but i dont. You should see it tho...

Okay I'll try it at lunchtime. Not holding my breath however. But we'll see.

Thanks for the info . . . :)

my HU as done this several times and this fixes it. Just tryin to save ya a buck or two ;) Let me know how it works for you.

aw crap.

the HU now works, but I can't see anything. No display, but the buttons do work, . . . .for now.

So does this mean ribbon cable faulty? :(

yep, ribbon is done. I havent had to replace one but there are threads by people who have.
