After you let off the gas or is it an indication of a problem around the corner. It seems to be more noticeable lately. Wifey is freakin' out....

No...........Not really....Any noise you hear that seems out of of norm is a indication of a problem of sorts,Sometimes turbos make noise when you have a intake or exhaust leak,A visual inspection should be able to eliminate this as the source,Check all intake hoses, clamps etc,and most noisy turbos ive seen are exhaust leak noise,I know its hard to see back there at the turbo so you will have to remove the air charge cooler housing and use a mirror and a flashlight to look for a exhaust leak at the manifold and the turbo,Should look like black soot around the leak,If you dont think you are up to it take it to Mazda they can put it up on the rack and see the exhaust system better from below..Plus if there is a regular problem with the exhaust like a leak at the turbo they will know where to look for it..You will lose horsepower and have the potential to take exhaust fumes into the cab so get it checked..

Alright, gonna drop it off at the dealer before it gets much worse. Hopefully today.

Thanks for your advise

Did you get any diagnosis?

My wife's CX-7 has this issue with the engine revving really high when going up or down hills. She has to tap on the accelerator to kick it out of this mode. The car doesn't accelerate, but it whines up really loud. I hadn't thought about it being the turbo kicking in. I just dropped it off at the dealer and I am wondering if you had the same problem.
