Is it my LSD or clutch?

Well something went wrong. I was around 4500rpm in first gear and pushed in the clutch and heard a pop. Then no responce from the clutch when i put it in second. At first there was a slipping noise that kind of sounded like a spinning clutch but after i parked it there was no noise at all when i engaged / disengaged the clutch and no forward or backward motion either.

Here is where i am thinking it is the LSD. When i put it in first gear and release the clutch the motor dips a couple of rpm like it is spinning the tranny. when i put it in fifth gear and try to move forward it bogs the engine down even more when i let the clutch out, like it is spinning the gears. Then when i put it in reverse it makes the usual reverse gear sound like a faint rearrrrrrrrr. All this and no car movement.

Is there a deffinate way to tell it is the LSD or clutch without dissassembly?
Either way Im going for a full engine, clutch and maybe LSD rebuild now that i have to tear it down. Thanks for any tips help in diagnosis...

hey you might as well buy that quaife lsd now and buy a bigger turbo........ amoung other things lol

The LSD is mounted after the gears. I would guess the fifth gear is heavier to turn around than the first gear, and it is only the weight of the gears that makes your engine dip down.

If you can't afford the Quaife one, at least get your new welded

or you could buy a welded one from PG... or a number of other venders...

I think i am going to order a welded one from P.G.
Does anyone have experience with these since it is the revised one. Does it still function as well as the original.

While i have the car apart i am going to pull the motor and go forged. (yippy)

When the lsd goes out, which mine did, is there usually anything else that breaks in the tranny, besides the oil seal, that I'm going to have to replace?

I already have my tranny off and ready to send to mechanic and have funds together to order a welded lsd along with a new clutch and motor mount inserts.

Also, anyone know any good shops in socal that can bend and weld me a
good 2.5" cat-less mid pipe for $150?
