Ipod stuff again

Hey guys, I know there's been much talk about hooking the ipod up to the stock HU but I have a question. I currently bought a regular generic input that plugs into the earphone part of the ipod and then connects through the cig lighter to play the ipod through the stock radio. As it is the quality is ridiculous. Is there any similar item (different brand) that maintains the sound quality but is just as simple (plug into ipod, plug into cig lighter)? Thanks guys!

With an MSP you can use the kenwood aux input adapter cable which is all of $20. Then get a mini to dual RCA cable. Lug the mini into the ipod, plug the RCas into the RCAs and plug the end of the kenwood adapter directly into the back of th ekenwood radios CD changer bus. You should get sound quailty as good as an ipod can give considering is compression.

OK so being the audio nOOb that I am let me see if I got this correct. I connect the red and black ends from this http://www.crutchfield.com/S-SWNmfRtly0e/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=227550&id=morephotos&pi=1&i=113CAC1AX&display=L#Tab, to the red and white ends from this http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=1&Section_Id=&pcount=&Product_Id=148894#. Then I connect the other black end from the first piece to the stock MSP radio (and where on the stock radio exactly do I connect this to), and the black end from the second piece to the ipod? Thanks!

Yes
Behind the radio you will find a jack, on the radio, that the kenwood adapter plugs into.

If the sirius unit provides a look through jack then it should, otherwise, its the wrong adapter. You may need to get the adapter from kenwood that llows several deives to be connected.

ok thanks

So how will the radio flip back up with the wires plugged in behind it? And is there any way to get a 'clean' look with this? Do you happen to have any pics?

That cable will work with any MP3 player correct? From what I see it looks like you need an RCA to 1/8" jack right? If so what is the part# for that cable? Where can I buy it? Can I just slide my head unit out or is it bolted in from the side? Sorry for all the questions but I havent done anything with the stock stereo in my car. I do have alot of experience with car audio though.

GREAT THREAD! i installed the cables last weekend and everyhting works perfectly! thanks
Where did you run the cables? I was looking into installing this but done know where I would want to install the cable at. I thought about just taking it through the tray right below the deck.

thats not a bad idea but i always like putting my wallet and phone in there. some people put it in the little pocket behind the cupholders but i dont want anything spilling on my ipod. i ran the cables under/through the center console and the cable comes out through the hole for the emergency brake. i always put my ipod under the lever behind the shifter wheni had the fm transmitter. so thats where i decided to put it.

A. run the lines to directly under the glove box(if you rest the ipod on the passenger seat)
B. run the lines under the center console and pop the cable out either at the cupholders or at the bottom of the e-brake handle

BTW, I'm selling my Kenwood cable fo $20 shipped to anyone that's interested since I've sold my KDC-MP919.

Was it hard to run the cable like that? I have not messed with taking the dash apart before so I do not really know what to expect. Any advice?

piece of cake.

You don't have to take the dash apart.. if you run in to the glovebox.

If you decide to take it to the e-brake, there's only 6 screws to remove to be able to 'slide' the center console back enough to pull the cable though.

-open the armrest + pull up on the ebrake surround to remove
-lift up on the shifter/cupholdr surround to remove
-unscrew 2 screws near dash (side), 2 in the middle(top), 2 in the rear(side)
-pull center console back towards the back seats
-pull the cable through

I can get mine out in less than 2 minutes...

Thanks a lot! I appreciate the help! (cool)

I just got done running my Aux cable, instead of taking it all the way through to the emergency brake, I drilled a slot in the storage area right underneath my head unit and just ran it though there. It is nice because then the cable is out of the way and you cannot tell at all that it is there.

mazda 5 - does it apply

Hi,

I live in Israel and I just received my Mazda 5 (2.0L, Automatic) pre-fitted with a stock Radio/CD system (looks the same as the one in the attached picture). It does not support MP3 playback so I would like to connect my ARCHOS MP3 player to the system. I have read the thread and I understand it's all based on a unit made by Kenwood - does all Maxda units made by Kenwood? How should I tell if the mod you are suggesting fit my stereo system. Needless to say that local importers and tech guys here are pretty lame and can't tell me nothing but "we don't modify original systems..".

Anyway - any ideas? How do I extract the cable from my Mazda 5? do
I need to open the head unit? Does the Kenwood adapter simply plugs in?

Moshe
