ipod problem

Yeah I try to not make a habit of spouting off incorrect information. As to where I got the information for it, that would be from bagman1 our forum sponsor from onlinemazdaparts.com. It could also have something to do with the multiple audio input threads I compiled on several forums over the past four years.

Mazda has actually changed manufacturers for the HU's 2-3 times..... So far I believe there have been Panasonic, Sanyo and Clarion HU's before the '08.5 refresh. Why they decided to change not only the manufacturer but the protocol and harness connections I can't speak to.

Design,

We already know the OP has a '08.5 model as he stated he had a 03/08 build date. '08.5 models were those produced after 01/08. It definitely sounds like he tried using an '04-'08 module with a '08.5 harness.

The one fact that remains is that you said he would need the OEM module.... from his post he states that he went to the mazda tech who installs the ipod adapters into the car.... to me that indicates he AT FIRST purchased the Mazda one, and then later tried the car audio one from therpmstore.com

So did Mazda give him the incorrect module then?

To clarify once more. There are two OEM Mazda ipod modules. One of them is only for use in '04-'08 models. The second is only for use in '08.5-'09 models, and requires an additional installation harness.

In the OP the OP said he:
-purchased an ipod module which didn't work
-returned it and was told he needed a different p/n which also didn't work
-returned it and was told he needed the install harness
-he told them to "shuve it" and bought a xcarlink which didn't work.

So what it sounds like is this. He originally purchased the '04-'08 ipod module which doesn't work on '08.5 models. He replaced this with another p/n (presumably the '08.5 ipod module) which won't work without the harness. Upon being told he needed the harness he returned it and bought an aftermarket ipod module that doesn't work on '08.5 models. He later stated that he got the harness and it didn't work..... as I previously mentioned there are two wires to the LCD that must be tapped for this thing to work (not required on the older version)

While a certain amount of blame can be put on the OP for not fully researching everything if the dealer had given him the appropriate information up front then none of this would have been a problem. Even worse Mazda themselves told him there were problems reported and to buy an aftermarket one.

Yeah and the aftermarket one didn't even work, LOL stupid mazda (stooges)

Makes sense now, if that's the scenario, he could have gotten the 04-08 module the first time out, and went back when a different parts guy realized he was given the wrong module and gave him the new one, and then the tech guy said he needed the harness, and he didn't want to pay the $80 for it.... and, well just a bunch of BS, it seems surprising you would be required to tap into some lines.

Is that what mazda is doing when people take their '08.5+ models in? they're doing wiretaps? I thought manufacturers didn't condone that type of thing.... That's a good way for mazda to fry an electrical system and then claim they won't cover warranty because the lines were tapped into, even though they did it themselves.

here is what i did. i bought a iphone cradle from the apple store. it looks great.

the only problem i had is when the iphone is charging via the cigarette lighter there is a ton of engine noise. so i did a little searching and found this...

to my surprise one of the reviews...
"Perfect for Mazda 3 owners
Written By Kristina, Maryland on Friday, March 23, 2007

I have a 2007 Mazda 3 with an AUX jack/Bose system/amp. If I used my iPod with a 12v charger I would get unbelievable engine noise/interference through all speakers. I had almost given up hope until I found this product. Got it yesterday and it works like a charm- the noise is 100% GONE. The best part about this is that no modification has to be made to the car at all, and since my AUX jack is in my center console- you don't even see the very small box.

As far as I'm concerned.. every Mazda 3 owner with an AUX jack should purchase this right away. This is a known problem for the car which has been posted in a few Mazda 3 forums."

i just ordered one. i hope it helps!

The '08.5-'09 ipod module displays text information on the HU LCD (unlike the earlier model). This requires you to tap CAN +/- wires in the bundle going to the LCD. I've heard some reports that the module will not work unless these lines are tapped.

Dealers still use taps for some things. My OEM auto dimming mirror came with a tap in the box and per Mazda's install instructions taps off a wire in the kick panel bundle. Mazda's not going to void a warranty for a wire tap when their tech manual states to use them.

It's Mazda.... ya never know. It wouldn't surprise me at all if they went so far as to "lose paperwork" to prove the install was done by THEIR tech. (boom02)

Alright, first post here and it's a question.

I found this site trying to figure out my own iPod issues with engine noise.

I've got a 2008 Mazda Speed3 GT.

So after reading quite a few threads, I ordered the Crutchfield RCA Adapter.

I'm plugged into the 12v with a Griffin Tuneflex and on that the 3.5 plug exits near the base of the unit. I then pluged the 3.5 into the Adapter and that into my aux input in the center console.

With this config, for some reason, the noise is gone, but so is 99% of the sound from my speakers. I get a decent amount from the fronts, but the door speakers and anything else are whispering. Some may not be outputting at all.

Ideas?

well in order to get the full output make sure the ipods volume is all the way up too. Also if the cable that connects to ur ipod is bad it might do that. cuz i have the same problem with my aux cable then I shake it around a bit and it gets the full. However since ur using the Griffin Tuneflex which I don't have I can't rule that out.
