I'll cut to the chase... I've been using my DashHawk to monitor boost levels, and they seem to be a bit low at times. As I understand it, the DashHawk should just be reporting what the ECU is reporting, so the DashHawk should not be introducing any degree of uncertainty.
I've attached some logs, but for my own sake won't tell you which log is which gear -- suffice to say none of the runs are first or second gear. I tried to start the runs from around 2500 or 3000 RPM to ensure the boost drop wasn't because I was getting too high into the RPM band.
To me, it seems 5th and 6th gear hold boost better/higher than the other gears which, from what I've read, is normal. However, as I understand it, 3rd-6th should have no limits on the boost and at times I don't even see the 'normal' boost of 15.6 -- I don't even spike as high as 15.6 at times. Also, I've seen some other DashHawk logs and the boost line tends to look MUCH smoother -- mine at time is a relative roller coaster of boost.
So, I am trying to get the opinion of the community (car is a 100% stock 08.5 GT):
- Are the boost levels reported by the ECU and subsequently recorded by the DashHawk accurate enough to make a judgment call?
- If so... does the data seem to point to a leaky BPV?
- Or... a generic boost leak somewhere in the pipe?
If there is other parameters someone would like to see with the logs, by all means, let me know as I am ALWAYS happy to go driving! If it matters, ambient temps were in the low/mid 80s tonight.
I'll summarize the boost runs, but feel free to take a look at the images themselves:
Boost Run 01: Poor Boost
- Spikes to 19.14
- Drops to as low as 14.65
- Hovers upper 14.xx to low 15.xx
Boost Run 02: Poor Boost
- Spikes at 14.5
- Drops to as low as 13.63
- Hovers mostly in the upper 13.xx
Boost Run 03: Normal Boost
- Spikes to 17.98
- Hovers mostly in the lower 16.xx to upper 15.xx
Boost Run 04: Poor Boost
- Spikes at 18.70
- Drops to 15.52 than back to 16.39
- Starts hovering in the lower 15.xx dropping off to 14.xx around 3200 RPM

- Spikes to 18.42
- Drops 15.52 than back to 16.39
- Hovers mostly in the lower 16.xx to upper 15.xx
