Interior Lighting

dont know about the decoder, you'd have to ask ben86

as for the 3022,s you'd need 5 total, 4 map lights one cargo light, the x9's have a rather narrow light beam (30degrees) rather than the 120 degrees of the hp4's, so you'll just get bright spots of light instead of wider coverage for lighting the interior

hey, i have the tech package gt model and i just simply replaced the bulbs out.. i believe its the same thing with the non-tech package.. just make sure you get the right bulbs..

@Akira,

Since you had the halogens on your Mazda, I had a question for you. I have the CX-5 Grand Touring, but didn't get the Tech Package, so would I be able to do a simple replace of the stock Halogen headlights/fog lights with H11 bulbs and stock Halogen DRLs with 9005 HB3 bulbs?

If so, sounds like an easier thing to do than getting an HID conversion kit.

If anyone else knows the answer to this, please feel free to let me know!

did the DRL LED upgrade on my Sport 6MT today. (non xenon)
Found that they needed the decoders to operate properly.

did the red LED interiors with no issues at all - love the look of it

installed a set of aftermarket HIDs (10000K) today - no extra wiring harness needed - plug and play with the factory harness.
no decoder needed
Took 10mins and best upgrade i've done IMO.

will get some pics up as soon as i can.

CraM, which aftermarket HIDs did you get?

Good to know I'd need the decoder kit for the DRLs!

badapple, i had no problems with my festoons when they're off, wonder if its something to do with the media center thing you installed

so i'm thinking the bulbs i got for plate lights really aren't the right ones, shoudl have gotten angled ones not straight outs like someone suggested

i've only replaced one of the plate lights and one of the drls, when it gets dark i'll check them out and take pics to show comparison

tho there are many out there that are similar - i just went with these guys cuz i know them and i can pick the stuff up from the guy in Markham.

without the decoder the DRL leds would only light when i put on the high beams.
in "regular" mode they were dark.
never any errors on the dash

So you went with 35w hids? I thought the halogens were 55w?

You may be right stromdriver

yeah tried again, no low voltage issues, you should try the suggestion i got from the guy at superbright leds about the 480ohm resistor across the contacts

so those festoons are insanely bright, the four up front light up the cabin almost completely once i tilt the emitters out a lil bit(rather than straight down) and the one for the cargo lights up great as well
tried to get pics but they all came out blurry

the fuse style lights for the vanity mirrors work really well too.

took the wife out to try them and she proclaimed 'jeesh they're too bright....i want you to do this to mine (shes planning on possibly pickin up a cx5 as well)'

but i'm somewhat displeased with my reverse and license plate lights, the bulbs i got were directional (aim light straight out) and the reverse light mounts are actually angled out to the sides. the plate lights mounts dont point straight down either, they actually go out almost horizontally so i'll be sending both sets of those lights back and getting side firing for the plate, and see if they have cluster blubs that point in all directions for the reverse.

as to my drls....jury is still out...
i picked up some ones on amazon that seemed to be just like the jdm ones but for a lil cheaper. except that it appears that each round emitter actually has 3 tiny points in it instead of illuminating completely.
so will have the wife drive down the street and back towards me to see how bright they are because standing in front if it they aren't particularly bright and barely lit up ground last night unlike kimchei said his do. they certainly don't seem as bright as the pics on the amazon page for them...
