Interesting tidbit for peeps looking to buy an MSP

Well, as some may know I am looking to get a MSP. For those that never payed attention or are looking themselves, let me tell you something interesting I have been doing the last week.

History:

First quote I ever received was $373/month
Next quote I received from another dealer was $398/month

So that killed my desire as I refuse to pay that amount for a $19K car(rebates)

Then I got bored and stopped at another dealer and was quoted $273/month. Much better but had a quote for a RSX Type-S for $265.

Last night went and dealt with the $373/month dealer and he said $279/month + lifetime oil changes on the MSP. Not bad, but I know I can do better. I am stingy when buying a car, if it isn't apparent already! ;)

So we talked more and I brought up the Austin dealer, $16500. He cringed and said he has no clue how he is doing it but if true he will match it. He said any deal you get from any other dealer in the country, he will match to get my business.

Heh. So I took the day off and played around.

Dealer in Wooster, OH (I am in Detroit area btw) emailed me and we talked. I told him the current offer on the MSP and RSX and that I was looking for more of a $250-$260/MONTH deal.

As I was leaving he called and left a message saying he could make a deal that fits in my range no problem. Just needed more info.

So basically, my long drawn out point is, dealers want to sell these, see what you can get. Seems to me smaller towns with larger inventories are more apt to make outrageous deals to get them off the lot. It might be wise to try and play this game and like myself, save around what?...$139/month. That is a big difference.

For fun, bring up the flash issue. Funny to hear them try and talk about it. Not one so far has any clue and tried to feed me a line of BS till I brough up the actual reason for needing the flash. Then all said they would do it to the car before delivery. =)

This has been fun. I love wheeling and dealing.

Well got my written confirmation from Priemere Mazda with a $16495 quote. Now off to my dealer and see if he will stay true to his word and match it. IF so, I will have a Silver MSP by the end of the week! =)

That's a great price. I unfortunately paid a lot more ($19,000), but prices seem to be a bit higher around here :(

Well ofcourse..they want to get rid of all 03's! Especially w/ the coming of the Mazda 3....

My girl wanted a fully loaded protege..the dealer wanted 19k..I laughed..and told him...that's ridiculous..he went down to 10k...and i still turned him down!

LOL

yeh mazda is giving dealers incentives to get them to sell cheaper, they wanna make room for the mazda3...i got my msp for 17000 with 2g down after ttl im financing 300 a month for 60 months on 16g......u can get 16500, if the dealer has a bunch to get rid of.....

It will be interesting...when I told him I knew a place in TX selling it at 16.5 he pulled out his calculator, made a face, then said if I can prove it he will match it though it seems inpossible to sell the car that cheap.

Today will decide whether I get the MSP or the RSX S-Type. Dealer wise I am getting much nicer experiences at Acura. Went to another Mazda dealer yesterday before getting this email from TX and he was rude and after an hour, never gave me a price.

How I am treated by dealers also reflects on how I feel about the car. I don't want to deal with assholes everytime I bring my car in, ya know. So if this guy stays true to his word, then I will be happy to get the MSP. If he balks, Acura.

The RSX-S is an excellent car. It was one of the other cars I was considering. But don't let the dealer get in the way of your decision. Buy either car because you like the CAR better. If you don't like a particular dealer, then just go to another. You don't want to get the RSX-S, then realize two months down the road you really wanted the MSP (or vice versa).

On average, Acura dealers will treat you better than Mazda dealers....Acura's a luxury brand. Every luxury dealer I've been to (even when checking out pre-owned...I was considering a pre-owned 3-series BMW) has treated me like GOLD. But like I said, try not to let that affect your decision. You deal with the dealership for a short amount of time compared to the amount of time you spend driving the car.

David McDavid Acura here in Austin makes my skin crawl... *shivers* I've been dealing with these morons for over 6 years now... I'm so ready to not have an Acura anymore. I hope the Acura dealers in all the other towns are better than these guys...

yeh the dealer i got my msp from were very straight forward and honest, i cant wait to get my flash done, great guys....when i was haggling the price the son of the owner was straight and said they wanted to get rid of all their speeds, so he asked for my price and didnt think twice......the prior dealer i was at lied and pissed me off, sometimes u just gotta search aorund.....

there is an ad floating around here from somewhere in texas for $15,999 if you want to print that out and bring it in...save even more!

wow, I really wish I waited a few years to buy a car :D these things are outright cheap now...(wow)

Jus a piece of advice, never negotiate the sale of a car based on the monthly payment, always stick to straight purchase price.

Exactly, don't deal with those salesmen bulls***. They work and like to quote in monthly payments. Don't play their game and fall for that shiznit. Make them quote the car in the actually price. Its their way of hiding the total price to make it seem like a more reasonable purchase.

By the way, I heard this before, "I will match any price." Be careful, behind that line there is alot of B.S. When it comes time for your decision, make the dealerships eat the "Paperwork costs" and the "destination charges."

Could you scan that or e-mail me it as I could really use it since I am looking at a lightly used 03 possibly.

USed is a different story - should be under $16k... and NEVER, NEVER, NEVER negoiate for a monthly payment. Too much room for financing that stretches out to 5,6,7,8 years and you'll end up paying $30k for that $16k car by the time you're done. Negotiate the purchase price outright, no moronic "doc fees" or service charges (save for certain things that can be justified - I didn't mind paying the dealer $20 to get my plates for me and save me a trip to the DMV).

Good luck!

Well, things are good!

Went there but my dealer dude was busy on a test drive. I waited but then had to leave for class. No one wanted to help me when I told them the skinny. They looked at the email and shook their heads. $16495. One asked if it was a demo, I handed the other email from Priemere in TX that stated the car is not a demo and has 28 miles on it. One dealer went into his office and crunched numbers, came out, and said, "Heh, wow, don't have a clue on how he can do it for that much."

So I was about to leave and the manager grabbed me and we went into his office. The other 4 dealers were interested and came in as well. We talked. Basic jist..

-The guy in Texas is ruining his business
-Doesn't have a clue on how he is doing it
-"Screw it, I am sick of this car and want them off my lot"
-I can have the car for $16,600 out the door.

Put in my deposit tomorrow AM and then next Monday we will get it. Gotta clear a few things up before closing the deal.

YAY!

It's the Silver one. They only have that and a Yellow. Blue is what I wanted but I like the silver. Less pig attention! =)

Thanks to this board for giving me the info needed to make this deal!

Actually the "guy in texas" is one of the more popular dealerships in the area. Amazing how the best dealership wants to ruin that by selling the cars.

Anyway, hell of a good job.

It's called making money in volume.

The Austin dealerships have bunches of these things. They can afford to let them go cheap. I feel sorry for my dealer though as my car was sitting in the showroom for year or more before I bought it (Manufacturing date was 8/02). All that time they were paying the bank on the loan for the car. Lord knows they didn't make any money on my deal (except for my trade-in which has been sitting on their lot for over a month now :D )

In any case, congrats on your good deal.

Ben
