How many of those cars came from the factory with a well designed TMIC?
There are other reasons for race teams to go with FMIC over TMIC, such as better access to the motor in a hurry, for starters.
You can't compare a dedicated track car to a boulevard bomber.
better access to the engine bay? I don't buy it. Go pull any sport compact car magazine off the shelf and find a performance street car that is running an upgraded TMIC over a FMIC conversion.
For everyday driving on a mostly stock car a big TMIC is a great upgrade, but FMIC is the way to go if you want to make big power.
