what is a better idea? to get an upgraded TOP mounted intercooler and then get a hood with a hood scoop for it...or to get a FRONT mounted intercooler?

I really just dont like the idea of a tmic. I'm going to get a fmic as soon as I can. It just doesnt make sense sitting in all that heat under the hood for me.
I'm probably missing something, but a well designed, efficient front mount would be best in my opinion

I know this has been debated ad naseum. I can only say that I really like the idea of the TMIC and am extremely pleased in its manner of performance.

Since you would never mod your own car, this is purely based on driving in cars belonging to other people who have, right?

I agree with Swamp about the hood too. The stock hood is well ducted to provide good airflow for the TMIC.

TMIC is the way to go i think. people like to think heat soak happens in 20seconds....well it doesnt. i can sit a a dead stop for 3 full mins before my intake temps will rise 15 degrees, thats nothing !! save the money... TMIC

oh boy

I love tmic idea...do 3.5 core is worth extra bucks ??
The fellas have done this a couple times over. Front mount is best. I have 3.5 TM ETS and as a road car it works just fine if you have increased flow. Quite pleased so far. Are you considering the intercooler upgrade in the future?

When is that TRZ tmic supposed to come out? It's been quite a while since I've heard anything.

not to mention that TMIC also has side benefits as well. The air that enters to cool the TMIC also flows cool air down the top of the engine, fuel system, and battery. These are nice as well :)

Here is the way I see it...have you ever seen a full race prepped race or track car that still utilizes a TMIC? The FMIC is always one of the first things they fab up when the top shops build project cars, vivid racing, perrin, cobb, harman-- all run FMICs.

However, a TMIC and water/meth injection can be a nasty setup too.

I agree. I am running on the stock TMIC right now, but have driven and taken rides in my friends cars sporting top, front, and side mount intercoolers. Personally, I'm waiting on the TMZ unit. Unless you're driving hard or sitting for long periods of time, it doesn't seem to be a huge issue.

Am I saying that I don't believe FMIC is more efficient. Not at all. I just think that for the price and function on a mostly stock car, the TMIC sounds like a better choice. If some of you are upgrading the turbo, upping the boost, and running any kind of other injection (CO2, N20, meth, etc) then yeah, go front. But for me TMIC $500 > FMIC $1000

Also, if you need warranty work or want to sell the speed at a later date in stock condition, it is WAY easier to swap your TMICs.

How many of those cars came from the factory with a well designed TMIC?
There are other reasons for race teams to go with FMIC over TMIC, such as better access to the motor in a hurry, for starters.
You can't compare a dedicated track car to a boulevard bomber.

the motor mount upgrade is worthy in itself. It's arguably the best $100 you will spend for upgrades on the car (my friend has one) :)

yes and Im considering only tmic

You know you can pm with questions and I will answer as best I am able. My son in law still argues the intake temperature in relation to horsepower is worth the front mount. He is smarter and I am stubborn. His cars are faster. damnit
