Intercooler painting

I know there are ways to paint logos and such on your intercooler. But what if i want to paint the whole front of the intercooler black for more of a sleeper look?
Is it safe to just use flat black primer or do i specifically have to find the black radiator paint?

Can an intercooler be painted?
Certainly. One might find a small loss of efficiency if the core is painted, but likely this would be less of a difference than the repeatability of measurement. By all means, paint the end tanks, but preference suggests the core remain exposed.

next question, where the hell do i get radiator paint? I asked pep boys for it and the guy looked at me like i was a moron and told me to just get the black primer...
Then he asked me what kind of car i drove, and i pointed and said that black mazda right there, and his eyes got big :D

open your phone book up... just call some places. Hopefully youll find somebody that knows what they are talking about.

But opening a phone book requires work, and i'm lazy :)
But we all agree that black radiator paint should work?

Personally painting the intercooler with hightemp paint is a dumb idea, do it right get it Anodinized.

Usually you do somethingl ike that to make it pop MORE, not to make it flat black sleeper look. And i never said high temp paint, enamels like that will definitely lower the efficiency of the intercooler. I looked into that too.

^^^I read this information as well, but for the amount of loss that would be experienced on our cars I don't think that this is a big issue by any means. I painted my FMIC black with regular black enamel.

I'd go anodized. Extremely thin coating, won't flake like regular paint with the expansion and contraction of the intercooler. If you really want to avoid the expense though and paint it. I would suggest applying the paint to the fins by hand, ie on a cloth or sponge and just dab it lightly on the edges of the fins. Then spray to your hearts content on the end tanks.
