intake help

on my 92 mazda protege 1.8 dohc and on the top half of the intake are some like butterfly valves i need to know if i can romove thoses to get more power

A lot of people say to leave them in unless you are turbo or making a lot of hp. The butterfly's help with the mid range power by no opening until 5500 RPM helping to increase intake velocity.

You could port out the passages to the butterfly's to help airflow a bit.
