Intake Exhuast, lower rpm power?

Hey, I was wondering about sumthing. I want to get an aem sri and the racing beat catback exhaust. I am driving an 02 protege es and I want to know would I gain low rpm power, stay the same or lose some???? I know I will gain high rpm power. But I keep reading some people say they lose low rpm power with some intake exhaust jobs, so I just want someone to help me out with all this. thanks

you'd stay very similar down low (maybe a small loss), but will gain a a decent amount above 4000rpm.

as stated in other threads, even with big big mods (like my engine), low down power loss isnt that great. hell i'm pretty much the same power under 3000rpm as stock, but have 28whp more power at peak than stock.

If there is a small loss, how much? 1 or 2 whp? Would that make a big difference because I love the low end power of the car and dont want to lose any.

i have an injen and the RB exhaust (catback) and i feel that the high end is there but u do have some low end. not significant but u can tell the difference.


i like my set up.

Here's the dyno of before and after my 2" exhaust. With smaller diameter exhaust, you probably wouldn't see any loss at all down low. A free flowing exhaust reduces pumping losses(how hard the engine has to work to injest or expel air), and you usually get torque gains.

Thanks alot for some of the feedback. I really appreciate it. Right now I'm saving up for exhaust and intake. Should have them by december. After that I'm probably going to buy the wagner shorty header, but i shouldnt get ahead of myself, one thing at a time.

also dont forget, because you're gaining more power up high it just feels like you're loosing power down low, but you're not really
