Hi all, bought mine in december. Red 3 GS 4 dr mt.
I'm looking up insurance right now and they are killing me. I'm trying to figure out how much other people are paying in Ontario.

thanks

Rod

With one at fault collision in the past 6 years, no tickets, single, male I'm paying $3500 for a full year with $500/$500/$1million coverage through CAA. It may seem like a lot, but I was paying a lot more when I was on facility insurance so I'm breathing a sigh of relief.

I pay roughly $185 a month for full coverage here in the U.S. (Allstate). However, I don't have the cleanest driving record, either.

Boy, and I thought I was getting screwed... I pay 185$ CDN/month. Got a clean record. Got my license when I turned 30 (I know, I know) and only have 2 years of driving experience.

Wow! How old are you? I'm a M/31 and I pay $51 a month with Statefarm. I do have alot of discounts though. (multi- car, homeowners)

i forgot about the conversion. so that is close to $2800 US funds.....a little better there. my g/f spends $2050 a year living in a high risk area, and has an at fault accident on her record. she drives a new Jetta, too......

37, a couple of speeding tickets that should be off my record in a year or so.
Nothing major, but points are points and insurance companies like to **** you.
I also don't have the lowest full coverage, either...so that makes it a little more expensive. No discounts on my end.

I was paying about $2500/yr living in Scarborough.
I moved to Whitby, which is further from my work, and my insurance went down $998/yr just from the move.

Insurance rates are a scam and are way too based on location.
I understand that my car is more likely to incur vandalism or theft in Scarborough, but that coverage isn't really what went up.

I fail to understand how I am less likely to be involved in an accident now that I drive further to work and still work in Toronto. Just cause I moved to Whitby doesn't make me a safer driver, but my insurance company thinks it does.

I'm not complaining about the cheap"er", I just think it sucks that I had to pay so much when I lived in Scarborough.

I'm basically saving $83 per month because I now drive more!
I can't make sense of that

I thought i was paying a lot. 750 every 6 months. i am 24, no accidents, just one ticket that will be gone in a couple of months. oh and i live in vermont

yeah a big factor in rates is where you have the car garaged. where it spends nights, the major routes going through the town, break-ins/crime rates and other factors.....sucks if you are not home much and have to pay all that premium.....

the driver record also plays a big part in calculating surcharges or credits going towards your policy.....

For two cars, I pay under $100 a month. The 3 is fully insured, and the Probe has just above minimal coverage. I have several discounts though, including a continuous renewal discount with my insurance company.

My insurance on my Mazda 3 just DROPPED...why? becuase the 3 scored #1 in the latest crash tests by the AIHS (American Institute for Highway Safety). I'm paying $360 a year, full coverage. i just love this car......... (hump)

do you have a link to this article/site?

why they are raping me

Thank all for the answers

basically the reason i'm getting kille is this one: I got one major conviction about 32 months ago. With that one I can get insurance at 2400$ which I can live with.

Where I am really getting killed is that I am moving from Montral to Ottawa and I need to demonstrate 3 years of driving history. In Quebec the department responsable for driving records told me (two different persons) that they do not keep ANY information about driving offenses more then two years unless it's criminal or meant a suspended license. In other word I cannot get anything from my government showing my driving record 3 years ago. Secondly, I haven't been insured in the last 4 years so the ticket I caught 32 months ago doesn't show in any insurance company, at least to my knowledge. I can't remember the exact city I caught it in and since then all the cities on the island of montreal have been absorbed by Montreal.

In other word as of now I have no way to produce anything for my 3rd year and that means premium apparently going up to 4000-6000$.

It's insane

Insurance is crazy up here. I've been told that if you go uninsured for more than one year (365 calendar days) and then reapply for insurance that most companies will charge you the same rate as that of a new driver!

The government does have a record of your driving record, but cannot give you a copy of it because it is not a matter of public record, even if you are requesting it. Weird huh? In Ontario you can request and extended driver's record, but it will take a little longer than usual to receive. I'm not sure about Quebec. The offence/ticket you got 32 months ago will show up on your driving record. I would still try to get a document from the SAAQ indicating when you first received a licence in Quebec (it should also indicate when it expires), regardless of the offences on the record, hopefully it won't show that many. It is the driving experience that the Ontario insurance company is after.

yeah, link please. i would like to call my insurance co and give them hell. Also, do you know when was this reported?
