Installing AWR Side MM Inserts

yea, i have the same question since my P/S mount is torn. i was also looking at the inserts but can u put the inserts on the broken mount or do i have to buy a new one.

Yeah, I know, but I have a feeling we aren't going to get any sort of an answer.

just did the front and am going to get the inserts for the sides in tomorrow. is there any other info on the side inserts? threads are hard to come by on this. guess I'll just chuck em in there and see what happens.

OK, who wants to know what. I did my drivers side and part of the pass side. The driver side isn't that bad. I had to take the airbox, maf, battery, and battery tray out in order to gain better access to the mount, then supported the trans with a floor jack then pulled it and and in the process you'll remove two vibration wings on either side of the stock mount then install the inserts and put it back in (didn't notice much if any more vibration from just this mount). Pass side mount, mine was torn so I had it replaced under warranty, the dealer had to order the part for me and had it back in about 4 days. I repalced the torn mount before putting in the inserts. Here is the problem. When I did the inserts I was like WTF, how am I supposed to get the inside insert over the little arm that sticks out the mount. The damn thing doesn't come out and from reading it seems as though people are cutting the inside insert and then mounting it with long bolts and washers (my idea to the tee). Anyway, that's what I'm going to do, cut the inside insert then install it with some long skinny screws and bit fat washers. I will snap some pics here in a minute.

or maybe not, I accidently deleted them from my camera, I even had install pics. Sorry ya'll. Anyway, if you want some installed pics let me know.

ok, have to run to home depot really quick to get some long screws and washers, will get pics of what I buy as well. Be back in about an hour or two with pics.

awesome

sweet. definately would like to see some pics. i don't understand replacing the mount and then cutting it.

Does everybody who has the front mount installed get hella vibration of the dash at idle and then it smooths out at about 1,000 rpms. I feel like if i adjusted the idle to 800 rather than 700 rpms it would make all the difference in the world.

driving with it in though is crazy. not used to it yet. i like it.

oh yeah, one set of inserts is thicker than the other. anybody got any insight on that?

I hope these help, sorry but forgot about the drivers side, will snap some tomorrow if I remember for ya. You can see where I cut the inside one as it's impossible to get the shaft out of it, well at least for me, so I cut it. You can see how I have the hardware holding it in instead of the zip ties (hahahaha). Anyway, I used #10x32x3" long screws with nylon lock nuts then put another nut on that to make sure they didn't back out. I have a feeling these will hold much better then zip ties which people say break. I don't see why this won't work out. Alway, here are the pics. Of course you have to put the hardware on before install (duhh!).

PS: This is a brand new mount

I've heard of people stretching them around the part that mounts to the motor but when I tried that the insert started to tear so i just cut the skinny one instead of the bigger one.

yea you need a jack for the tranny side insert, but the passenger side doesnt need one. pass side is easy except for stretching the insert around the metal and the tranny side is just a bit of work to get to.

You don't even need a jack to do the front one, just take the two bolts out the bottom and the one from the mount to the block, slide out front mount, put your inserts in it, then put it back in.

** You will however need the floor jack for all the other mounts, sides and rears no matter if it's inserts or new mounts, hope this helps **

** update, my side mounts are doing great, both sides, and my front and rear AWRs with the 88's are as well, buuukuuu vibration, but price to pay for no more wheel hop **

For those of you with all four engine mounts. Did you notice less of a vibration once you added the side mounts compared to when you just had the front and rear?
