Installed JBarone Short Shift Plate....

I just installed mine Thursday. Took 15 minutes, really easy. The new powdercoat is amazing (glossy black). Drives like the STS equipped MS3 I drove a couple of months back at less than half the price! Now that I got the shifting down the 2-3 and 3-4 shift are lightning quick. One or my favorite mods I have done. This is in combination with the SU shifter bushings/AWR MM.(breakn)

Thanks Jbarone!

You're welcome, I'm glad you like it. The powder coat is so tough too. It will look and last like new for 10+ years.

Thanks,
Jamie

Looks like a nice mod if you don't want to go the STS route. Was about to do a STS but I might have to try this one out...

Add me to the list of members that have installed jbarone's shifter plate. It works very well, in fact, I like it better than a short shifter setup. The factory height handle fits my purpose better and the shifts are shorter, but shorter on the 2, 4, and 6 side, which is better to me. A plus is it can be installed and removed if needed, very quickly.

Overall good value, good performance.

I have my own version of the Rotus mod and decided I should try a lighter weight. I just installed one of JBarone`s weights and there is a definite improvement. What I noticed the most is that under spirited shifting, it doesn`t feel like the mechanism is trying to bounce back out of gear after each shift.

By the way, is it just my car, or did anybody else`s factory weight stink to high heavens? I had it in the house and within a few minutes, I had to put it in the shed.

I'm so glad someone finally realized how important the proper shift weight is in a short shift configuration. The potential for damage to the transmission over the long term is too great to ignore.

This is why I'll never sell my STSP kits with out the weight.

Thanks,
Jamie

Nobody has any thoughts on this?

Reminded me of internal parts saturated with oil that got cooked.
If you`ve ever smelled a rod that came out the side of an engine block, you`ll know what I`m talking about.

My weight was very new when I removed it so no it did not smell. I think I can tell you why it does though, there is air in the cavity where the bolts thread in to it. That area combined with the thread locker used from the factory is what causes the stink. I removed a rear motor mount from a car with about 70,000 miles on it and the bolt stunk so bad it almost ran me out of the garage.

Thanks,
Jamie

Hey, on this topic, and out of curiosity, I pulled my weight off yesterday afternoon (it was almost nice out)

Holy balls

it now resides in the special plastic container of "OEM parts to be reinstalled prior to a dealer visit"

I would encourage everyone to try the car without the weight.
It is different, and some will like it and some will not
it is a more connected feeling, light, responsive, way more feel. but along with that comes a more pronounced notchieness

i had this plate installed for a week and had to take it out and install the stock one again. i didnt like how shifting felt so heavy and stiff. i luved the short throw of it but the stiffness killed it. just my opinion on the part.
