I installed denso iridium plugs yesterday. The other mods I have are AEM Short Ram intake, and Mazda Sport exhaust. Anyway, geez, maybe its in my head but I feel there is definately more responsiveness to the engine, and noticiably more zap as well - more than I expected.

Has anyone else tried these with similiar mods? Is it all in my head?

Patio,

I guess I'll find out for sure when I redyno - probably in the next couple weeks.

I have fairly new plugs in there - I only have about 3,500 miles on the car. Mega mile - then new plugs - I agree - almost new plugs - then new iridiums - I don't know - not so clear cut to me.

You may want to see:

http://www.densoiridium.com/dynochart.asp?id=1

Like I say, I was skeptical I would see much bump in performance - but it sure FEELS like it - dyno will quantify.

PS - WTF does that first line mean?

it is not in your head. I have had my Denzo's for about 6 months. There is more ZAP but you are paying for it too. My plugs cost me about 65 dollars for the set. To me, it is well worth it..

i looked at the website, whats the difference between the IK16s and the IK20s. they both say 2001 2.0l Protege.

I have the Denso Iridium's and am very satisfied. Some say $44 (which is all I spent) is too much for four plugs, but

The IK20's are a cooler plug, from what I remember (better for racing or other high temp road driving, but may foul early if idle too much with them). The temperature rating is determined by the length of the insulator portion of the plug.

I recommend them if you're replacing your plugs, but realize there are more cost effective mods out there.

I'm not exactly an expert in this area, but a single heat range cooler probably won't make that big of a difference. The Protege manual recommends replacing the stock plugs with either 16 or 20 (if replacing with Denso's, although the part numbers given in the manual are only for replacing the OE copper plugs).

It shouldn't make too big of a difference getting one or the other, that is just the reason for the two different numbers.
Josh:rolleyes:

ok, i dont know anything about plugs thanx. so it shouldnt make a different. but if your going to be running your motor in high RPMs (racing) alot get the 20s. ill probably get the 16s and see how they are when i get my wires. i should get 25 horse at the wheels YO!!!!!!! j/k.

does anyone know what the stock plugs are? i haven't yanked one out yet...

my old impreza 2.5RS came from the factory with champion plugs, for some godforsaken reason (champions only run well in lawnmowers!).....i replaced them with some NGK coppers and the ******* car not only started better, but throttle response and engine smoothness were MUCH better. and they only cost me $7. :D

My stock plugs were Denso Iridiums. The part number was:

SKJ16CR-A8

I removed them when I had my nitrous. :(

I really did not, and still do not know much about iridiums. I just happen to have one of my old spark plugs right here on my desk. About the avetar, you don't like the GoJu Fist?

The stock plugs on the P5 are NGKs (Platnum). From what my mechanic told me, the Denso Iridium plugs are manufactured by NGK--it is there top of the line plug.

I got mine from Speed Demons :D

it works, but the bouncing bobbies were better in my opinion.

P5blk_stal - and were on the website did you order the plugs, they have links for a bunch of manufacters, but no links just for the plugs.

I thought that logo looked familiar. I was with GoJu for 2 years :)

So what have we learned?

-mp3's supposedly come with iridiums
-the iridium 16's would be best for most of us
-Linux knows martial arts

what we need:
-dyno with stock plugs vs iridium plugs
-a place we can get the new plugs online for a good price
