Hey guys i dont know if this has been covered yet or not so im gonna ask.
I want to run my subs and amp off the factory hu never done this before. i have replaced h/u's in other vehicles though... I know i need a rca converter but do i splice it into the output of the rear speakers and both. i have all the wiring i need here at work im gonna use 4g. cable for the battery power(red) 4g for ground(brown). and i will get rca's but do i need any other wires or what? What is the difficulty in doing this? Has anyone does this to there 3 and if so what did you do...I have no liscense since it got revoked so im doing all my mods since i cant drive it.lol. i would like to do this in the next week...thanks guys Brian.

Here is the wiring colors for the rear speakers if you have the sport, not Bose like in the GT. At least this is the way it is on the speed 3, not sure about the colors for regular 3 if they are the same.

Left rear "+" is white w/purple stripe.
Left rear "-" is gray w/white stripe.
Right rear "+" is white.
Right rear "-" is gray.
Remote power is yellow w/silver dots.

Splice those right into the LOC and you are set for RCA.

If you can solder then that is the way to go. 4g will work, I have 8g i think and it works fine. But I guess that depends on the power of the amp.

Take out the glove box and you will see where to go through the firewall, where all those other wires go through. That should be about it for the install, do it yourself, not that bad of a job.

I didnt think it would be that bad of a job to do just time consuming in having to splice these wires i was thinkin about maybe mounting the loc in the rear hatch or in the storage compart me in the hatch so this way i wont see it i dont really want to shove this thing behind the radio....i dunno we will see i hope to be doing this soon...Brian

Ummm yea, this might be i dumb question so if i get beat about this im ready for the punishment but you have to take off the door panel to access the speakers correct? So if so then i guess ill be gettin busy soon

Couldn't you just take the head unit out and tap into the wires right there in teh dash? Then hide the rca in there, or in the glove box?

There are a few threads on that on here somewhere I think. Look around and get some ideas before you take it all apart!!

I wired mine right behind the head unit and just left the loc back there theirs alot of room behind the radio

Yes i could do that so you say its fairly easy to do this? i just really like the stock hu in this car for some reason....is there a thread in the how to section to remove the stock hu?

Never used a line out converter before. You can splice/tap into it and still have it go to the speakers? This doesn't cause any signal issues?

just wondering. I would have assumed the speaker lines would need to be "dedicated" so to speak to the LOC, but like I said I really don't know.

thanks,
steve

No i have a protege and i ran my stock hu for over a year like this. You can't tell a diff at all. Its really not hard at all, that was my first audio system to wire up and i had no problems

I'd connect it to the back of the HU if you have the sport. Connect it under the driver's seat if you have the GT w/ Bose.

so what goes with the remote wire from the amp i have mine tap with the yellow wire with silver spots and i have no power to the amp

the remote wire you just wire to anything that has 12v when the car is on, ie the red wire in the back of your head unit then it will turn your amp on when you have your key in the acc position

would this work im a little confused

Stock head unit... with 4 new speakers

if i bought this ( http://www.crutchfield.com/S-dvg5vcFvRfS/cgi-bin/prodview.asp?i=142SLC4 ) it would work for my mazda 3 front 2 speakers, 2 rear speaker. or could i get 2 of theses ( http://www.crutchfield.com/S-OWPwt3o768D/cgi-bin/prodview.asp?i=101PL2 ) and it work the same way?

Then finally would the stock tweeters and an after market sub be hooked up to an amp like this ( http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...t&productCategoryId=cat03086&id=1170289779383 )
and this set up is possible?

I am good when it comes to electronics, but i'm horrible when it comes to how to get the wires from the front of the car to the back of the car: - what is the best way to do this in the MZ3 Sport?

Ive got mine set up. I have a 10'' sub and I really like the sound. It makes the stock system really stand out for sound quality compared to before when it sounded like crap when i just cranked the bass and blasted it for any depth.

Just to clarify here...

If you have the MS3 sport, an LOC (line output converter) is necessary if you are installing any amplifier that doesn't have speaker level inputs.

The Bose system in the GT puts out line outs that you can just wire to some RCA connectors and feed safely into an amplifier.

Never feed speaker outputs directly to the inputs on an amp unless they are designed to do so. It is a good way to see smoke. :D

do you have any suggestions as to what line output converter is good for a semi modest setup?
maybe an amp and sub pushing like 350 watts rms?

I'm new to the world of amping and subbing a factory headunit, ive always had aftermarket.

Are you saying I can hook up a Class D mono amp; along with a supplied power source, and use the signals from a provided RCA output there to push another sub in the hatch of my GT?

I'm going to have to investigate my sub woofer location..... I JUST saw it today underneath my passenger side seat the location of the sub. lol

::goes to investigate these outputs real quick::
