Install fuel pressure gauge

I have a fuel pressure gauge from DEFI that I am going to install. What have others done to install the sensor? Any suggestions before I start to rip and tear would be great!

I have the same issue. I plan on cutting into one of the two rubber fuel lines running into the fuel rail. I am not sure which one yet but will let you know. The other alternative since our fuel rails are large enough you can get a bung welded on. You will have to be without your car for a day but it will be 100% accurate.

I was thinking about taking out the piece on the drivers side of the rail and installing a tee reinstalling the piece and the sensor in the tee. I know its not the fuel pressure regulator but it looks like a diaphram when I took the white plastic cover off the top. Anyone know the function of this piece?? Or the name of it?

I just installed mine. I replace the line from the firewall to the rail with some 5/16" fuel injection hose and inserted a fitting in the middle (available from www.mrgasket.com) product: http://go.mrgasket.com/ProductDetails.aspx?brandId=0&productID=25497&majID=225&minID=2262&selection=5&minselection=4 . If your sender needs to be grounded, since it's buried in rubber hose, you'll need to run a wire from the sender to the engine. run your wire from the sender through the firewall to your gauge (assuming electronic gauge) and you're all set. You actually have to replace the line, because the stock mazda line is double thickness and won't accomidate an inline fitting.

Caution: USE PROPER FUEL HOSE CLAMPS. If you don't, it does not apply sufficient pressure on the hose and you may have leaks.

the white thing is the pulsation dampener. It reduces waves that travel back through the fuel system from the injector pulse. From what I hear, it has to stay where it is and NOT be on a tee.

Edit: replace the one that goes TO the fuel rail, not the return line!! If you cut into the return line you will only be reading pressure AFTER the fuel pressure regulator, which is not the accurate fuel pressure...

well looks like I will have to remove the damper and see what happens with a tee. I dont think It will make any difference.

maybe I will drop the damper completely?

I know, I know... this thread is a little old, but I was doing a search and it came up... just thought I would comment...

The pulsation damper keeps pulsation wave in the fuel lines under control. What this means is that it keeps fuel pressure even across all fuel injectors. If it is not there, some of your cylinders may run rich or lean, while others may be opposite. I would say keep this in as is. Just tap in to the hose before the fuel rail.

anyone have a little better explanation of where to T into to put the sender. or even better, a pic.? i think i know where, but i want to be absolutely sure. anywhere near the fuel pressure regulator?

im 99% sure, it`s the line going into the fuel rail on the driver`s side. this is wat ive been told by a few forum members. im not 100% because i havent done it yet. so... FWIW.

I re-did all my fuel lines in braided stainless, so I just bought a fuel pressure gauge adapter and ran it inline, just before the fuel rail.
