Injen Owners *Caution*

I've had my Injen on the car for about 2 weeks. I took the car to a shop to get some parts Fab'd. When we took the injen out, we were disgusted to find that the pipe that connects to the turbo had a layer of thick black soot all over the inside of the pipe. It smelled like polishing compound (uhm)

I don't know if I was just unlucky to get what the Injen Quality control missed... But just a word of warning to Injen owners b4 they're turbo sucks up all that crap.

Yep, I agree with that last statement. Also there will be carbon buildup in there because of the extreme rich fuel situation.

You vicious threadjacker. (evil) It is pretty cool, loud as HELL turkey. Plus you can hear the turbo spool up too! Will test the power potential this weekend when we go driving in preparation for the Michgan Mazda Drive. Then we will see what kind of difference it made. I still need a downpipe for a real significant change in HP. Is your MP3 gone yet?

So because of the rich fuel situation our cars are known for, I'd have to clean out these pipes every 2 weeks? How healthy is it for the engine and turbo to be sucking up these carbon deposites?

Jonnydoe48: Weapon R in SF is planning on making a hardpipe kit, sri, and possibly a downpipe.

Still some stuff left. Trying to find a buyer for the engine.....know anyone??

Oh sorry for the thread jack everyone

KaliCali, If it does it on the injen, it doe sit on the stock as well, either way..... well you know what I'm sayin

I was thinkin that... I'm just thinking about how fast it will build up.
I mean... the thing was on there for 2 weeks and there was a fair amount of watever it was in that pipe.

If I may offer a probable explanation:

that carbon is already created inside your engine, but because of the surge caused by your cai, that soot flows back into the intake and deposits itself there because it is colder.

again this is only a probable explanation because my engineering experience lies with marine diesel engines, not gasoline...

Carbon build up is normal in every car regardless of intake style. I am not saying that is what it is for sure without seeing it, but I agree that it is not polishing powder. The carbon comes from the combustion process, it will build up more quickly the richer the fuel situation in any car. It usually builds up in the intake manifold and throttlebody, but with a turbo and the surge it could possibly go as far as the intake or airbox. If you could post some pics that would be helpful. I just put an Injen on my MSP and will check it in a couple of weeks to see what it looks like. (wink)

The injen doesn't cause the compressor surge...it just amplifies the sound of it.

Plus all of the air that's involved in the surge doesn't even get to the engine....surge happens because the throttle body closes and the air bounces off the throttle plate back towards the turbo.

I see says the blind man...

Did anyone look inside the injen before they put it on? Mine had fine metal dust and tiny shavings that I had to clean out. It was pretty dirty inside the tubing out of the box. Just wondering if anyone else noticed this?
