Independant Throttle Bodies (ITB's/IRTB's)

I while back I was pretty broke. I went to the for sale section and posted up a kidney for sale. I got some good feedback. You might look into it if you still have two...

Otherwise, keep us updated...

your car is going to have pretty much an "ON" or "OFF" throttle
there use to be a company that made an ITB kit for neons, that kit used the Tec-III, they recomended that you have high compression pistons and all the other goodies.
Most people I have talked to with ITB's have said they are a pain in the ass all around, but done right they can make a good deal of power

I'm selling a 1988 Volvo 740 GLE and an eMac... Want to fund my build further? ;) I'm pretty much done, save two parts, and one of which is an ECU... Uugh.

Plus, I havn't sourced up the 10.7:1 compression pistons I'll need. The stupid head needs to be reworked, and milled. I'll be sitting at about 12:1 compression once all is said and done, with my lumpy cams and all.

But this is all waiting on those two last parts which add up to shy of 2k all together.

I was just thinking about this thread this morning at work. I said, "I have to bump it when I get home". And here it is.(thumb) FB, you gotta get this together.:)

so, overall, you think youre looking at about 150-160 @ the wheels? (uhm)

i would think that would be possible on the FS, esp if you're bumping compression and changing cams...it's not a direct comparison, but SCCA C-Street Prepared BP-powered Miatas are typically pushing that on stock internals, stock compression, and less displacement.

<-- can't decide whether to build a 1st or 3rd gen for FSP

For FSP, a 1st gen is the way to go. If you were going GS or DS, I'd say go with the MP3 or Mazdaspeed. But the 1st Gen LX makes more power, is much lighter than a 3rd gen and still has a great chassis.

Also, there is a 1st Gen GT and a P5 both prepped for FSS here in Ontario, and the GT beats the P5 by minimum 2 seconds at any given race. Of course, because of all the 3rd gen guys here, people are going to argue this. But fact is, I've driven both. Not too many people have driven a 1st Gen. On the other hand, there's a guy with a 3rd Gen 1.6 sedan in H Stock(which can run R-Compounds here) who always beats the guy in the P5.

i wouldn't be surprised if the BP actually does make more power than the FS, regardless of the advertised numbers. i do love the torque of the bigger motor, though.

what does your car weigh? while proteges in general aren't particularly light, from the info i've found, the 1st gen LX weighs in at ~2400lbs, while the 3rd gen DX or LX (no side airbags, no moon roof) tips the scales in the mid 2400s. (my loaded ES is 2625:( ). i think the best route would be a 1st gen stripper SE or DX with a BP transplant.

i think the knowledge base for the BP is probably a lot bigger than that of the FS, thanks to the Miatas. OTOH, old cars are a PITA to work on and get parts for...i've learned that quickly working on my FX16. great car..not worth the hassle (for me, anyway).

anyway, back to your regularly scheduled thread!

I'll continue the thread warp to answer your questions. The BP baselines from 105-111whp. And that's a 1.8litre. A fully loaded LX will weigh 2400lbs. My GT, which had everything, including sunroof(extremely heavy), 40lb racing seats etc, weighed 2500lbs. I got it down to 2350 in street trim, and 2250 in race trim. So if you got a DX, with no power options, it only weighs 2350 to begin with.

There's no doubt the 3rd Gen chassis is better though.

Here's an update, guys: I've had to ship my WRX out to California, and I busted the control arm and right front wheel of my car. So, presently, a new set of tires (Riding on my winters right now) happens before anything else, followed by probably about 1.2G dropped on a set of SSR 15x6.5" rims. After I'm not poor anymore, you'll be seeing more updates from me. EMS is next, and I'll post that here, despite it not exactly being ITB's, and then the ITB setup from there. It may look a little different than all of you expect, since I've revamped some of my plans, and found a place to do some custom investment casting for me. If the bits they churn out look to be any good (Going today to check 'em out), I'll be getting them to make me a new flange and lower runner setup.

At any rate, I'll let all of you know once I'm not poor again. Heh.
