Independant Throttle Bodies (ITB's/IRTB's)

always makes me feel good when i catch a mistake made by one of the "smart guys"

how does a standalone cost? one that will control everything you need it to.

$1100.53

No, anywhere between 500 and 3000... Standalones vary a lot in cost, depending on features. I'd suggest the Microtech, Haltech, AEM, or something along those lines.

I beleive the feeling you're feeling is cross between vindication and schadenfreude.

That aside, I'm not one of the smart guys. I just am a geek who spends too much time with his car.

what whp would this put out?

There's one particular Miata that installed IRTB's and a stand-alone on an otherwise STOCK car, and got 16whp. By naturally aspirated standards, that's quite a leap, but the intagibles are what makes one desire this set up: sound and throttle response.

Here's some tastey IRTB stuff...

Gibb racing(these guys are legendary in the Miata circle, check out the rest of this cardoman to see a set of kick-ass, proper long tube 4-1 headers)

And here's Gibb's old street Miata, mild build with IRTB's. Notice how smooth the torque curve is, and how much it screams up top.

Here's his new setup. 170whp

this guy ended up laying down 160+whp...

...I'd like to add, that the same engines in our cars would make 10 more whp because of FWD efficiency. Miata's lose about 25whp to the drivetrain

I had a pm from Nick about IRTB. He suggest using a air box and the exsisting MAF along with the MPI. I have contacted JEN_VEY and CHADHILL(intake manifold) they have a combo possibly for the FSDE. When I get more info I will pass it on. Cost around $2000 to $2500(installed and tuned) depending on exchange rate.

I have found the site... Just type AAI Motorsport on Yahoo. I can't read Japanese (or Taiweneise or whatever lol) but I didn't find the awesome ITB setup. :(

yup...intake is open up to the head. sweet indeed.

if justin is making the power he is w/ the stock TB and cam timing (and no tuning), i'm anxious to see what comes out of a fully-prepped version.

Indeed, me too! 150whp doesn't seem far fetched at all.

LOL.... I gotta boner for this. But wouldn't it be loud as hell? (Believe me I'm cool with that, but my Protege is my daily driver I drive semi-respectable people around in.)

From what I figure the basic MAM turbo would make my car even quieter than it is now (keeping my already fairly quiet RB Catback). Still I look forward to someone trying this.

The EGR is not much more than a valve bolted to a flange on the manifold. I would really really really like to see a picture of the stage 1 kit with the plenum. if it is roughly in the same location as the stock manifold it can be modified to accept the stock EGR.

Doesn't leave much room for the EGR, but as long as the sensor is plugged in and reading something it out to not through a CEL. There is nothing saying that it has to be routed back into the intake.

I was about to say...good call. Also, there really isn't anything that says the EGR needs to be where it is. I'm sure it can be relocated with enough ingenuity.

Hopefully we'll see. But don't poopoo on my pipe dreams :D

Haha, I had them too. It was definetly fun. ITB's would so much fun to have though. Obnoxious all day long. I wouldn't even care how fast my car was, it would sound like hell with a mazda stamp.
