Inconsistency with Android Auto at startup

We picked up a new 2025 CX-5 GS comfort package last week. Both my wife's and my phones are pairred to the system. The infotainment system is not consistent in its startup. When I use the car, it automatically starts up android auto but for my wife, she has to go select it in the screen to start Android Auto (Both phones are Pixel 7 with identical settings). Is there a menu option in the infotainment that needs to be changed? Looked and could not find anything.

On ours, at start up you just need to push the selector dial forward to engage AA. It will then ask you which phone.

I also noticed if you press the talk button on the steering wheel, AA starts up also...

Hello.

Have you gone through all the Android Auto settings on your phone?

On my Android phone, I go to Settings -> Connected devices -> Android Auto

And there, there is a bunch of settings, including . . . Start Android Auto automatically, Start Android Auto while locked, Start music automatically.

I can't remember if there are settings for these in the Infotainment system. But it could be worth a shot to go through the settings in the Infotainment system as well. Both in the Mazda settings, as well as the settings in the Android Auto Apps Screen while using Android Auto.

Take care & Happy Motoring! :)

Did you also check the Auto Startup setting inside Android Auto in the car's infotainment system?

I'm not sure how these might be linked . . . but everywhere I saw Android Auto Auto Start, whether it was on our phones, or if it was a menu item in the Setup app on Android Auto inside the car, I turned it on.

And that seems to work for us. My wife prefers not to have her "music" app auto start. But wants Android Auto to come up so she has the map accessible. Me, I like it to start up Android Auto and auto-start whatever I was listening to last . . . podcast / audio book.

While I'm not positive, I believe that your car is looking for the last device that was connected to the system, your phone in this case.

Your wife gets in the car and the system is looking for your phone, it doesn't find it, so it reverts back to some default setting.

Once your wife gets her phone connected and it's working properly, if she now parks the car and you drive it, does your phone connect automatically or do you have to select it from the menu?

It's all fine now and everything works as expected. Translation problem between husband and wife when it comes to technical stuff (even though we both speak the same language).
