Some Ignition questions:

How do we get our ignition signal? Crank Angle Sensor? Magnetic Crank Trigger? Some form of electronic dizzy?

Do we have coil on plug? I noticed we do not have the typical spark plug wires. I am assuming so.

Is there a FSM or wiring diagram for our cars? Some sort of manual?

Uhm, unless you are diesel - you have spark plugs (1/cyl).

ECU triggers coils based on input from crankshaft position sensor and temp and controlled with a knock sensor IIRC...

The MP3 ECU runs a little more advanced timing than other proteges.

Why do you ask? It might help us guide you to the info you need.

(and OT, why did you pick the name of our Lord and Savior for your site name?)

Yes I know our cars have spark plugs. I had to ask a silly question to get some answers.

Reason I am asking is because I just installed a MSD 6A box on my RX7, and it did wonders for start-up and gained about 2 MPG. I have one more, and wanted to install it on my protege, but couldn't find a FSM or anything on our cars to see how the ignition works. It is much easier on my 7.

(Picked it because it is my name on other forums as well. I have ling brown hair)

Ah. Okay.

Nah, our stock ignition is not a weak point so you probably won't see the benefit.

Cam position sensor (mostly) and controled in the ECU (not a seperate ignition module).

Thanks. I am glad to see an old Protegeclub.com member :)
