I Wouldn't be surprised if it's a combination of the two as far as the "de-tuning" goes. I'm quite surprised by warranteed power upgrades, I'm hoping these don't fall prey to dealer inflation 8-(.
Overall, all the reviews I've been reading, say this thing is a pure beast.
The most consistant gripe between everyone is shifter feel, but honestly, that's quite subjective. Another thing that's consistant is everyone is applauding how well this car handles and how tame(unpunishing to the driver) it is for having so much power.

I wonder if any of the Mazdaspeed accessories for the Mazdaspeed3 would work. like the lightweight wheels or whatever else the catalog consists of

I wonder it they'll actually offer the Mazdaspeed performance parts and tuning instead of developing them, then they disappear (MSP FMIC)
