IGN cars drives MS3 and MSMS3 at Laguna Seca

After receiving thousands of death threats for not making a MazdaSpeed version of the Protg5, Mazda has sought to make amends with the enthusiast community by giving the MazdaSpeed treatment to the Protg5 replacement, the Mazda3 5-door hatch. As you know, we adore hatches around these parts, so we immediately applaud Mazda for giving us a raced-out hatchback/wagon.

I told you people they read these forums...

In our few laps behind the wheel of the MazdaSpeed MazdaSpeed3, we honestly couldn't feel an improvement in speed through our "butt dyno". That doesn't mean that the car isn't faster -- it's just so refined, the car still feels incredibly easy to drive. We didn't have a radar gun, nor did we time our laps, so we can't say for certain just how much faster the tuned version of the tuner car is. However, we noticed that we'd have to drive the tuned version of the car slightly differently. For example, in the standard MazdaSpeed3, we'd accelerate out of Turn 5 in Fourth gear and hold that gear all the way up to Turn 8 (the Corkscrew). Taking that same corner in the MazdaSpeed MazdaSpeed3, we'd be going so fast we'd need to shift to Fifth Gear before we hit Turn 6. We noticed a few other corners where the "fast" MazdaSpeed3 would require us to grab extra gear that we couldn't hit in the "standard" MazdaSpeed3, so we feel it's safe to say that the Mazda-tuned version of the car is faster than the already-fast hot hatch. Not bad for a factory-tuning effort that comes with a full factory warranty.

Now Honda, Scion, VW and Chevy's cars get left even more behind after you go MS-MS3, lol...

It's has great handling but does it have MSP handling is the question.

all I could think about is slapping inthe ms6 computer...wonder how the tune differ between the 2????

Jeremy

not sure if its true but the power was off on the ms3 vs the ms6 due to the different size of the exhuast manifold and downpipe due to less room not b/c of different tune. thats just what i remember reading a while back. take it for what its worth... mindless blabber on a internet forum.
