If you were to spend under 400 on a HU, what would you get...

Go alpine for sure- I have been using them for years- the only issue I have with the jvc HU's is useability- the alpine is much more intuitive- and the sound quality is better too

My past two HU's have been alpine, and they are awesome. I picked up an alpine type E sub for practually nothing three months ago and it is very nice. have it in a sealed box and am impressed with it.

The model just below the alpine that Natey suggested would be fine, I think...or even the 7995. Just install everything at once at you'll be all set. :D

You can also check out Eclipse headunits, and the Pioneer Premier line is pretty nice...they may not have anything you like for about 400$ though...:(

As for components, just make sure you listen to them first...I'm a big fan of Boston Acoustics' comps as well as the JL VRs.

For an amp, I highly recommend either the Alpine MRV-F340 ( i think...that should be 50x4) or the Eclipse that's in my sig, the EA3422. I love the Eclipse and it's an awesome unit for the price.

Subs...well...elemental Designs hasn't failed me yet...talk about great SQ! :D 'Course you'll need an amp for those, but that's all up to you...you can get HiFonics, JL, Xtant, whatever fits your bill! Just make sure the box is right!

Good to see you on here again, Matt...Happy Holidays and be safe.

I am with servoeyes. Just buy everything and install it all at once. I did that and it was nice. Just take the car apart one time and be done with it all at once. I just bought stuff as I got the money. Hard to be patient when it is all sitting around but I did it. I jsut did not want to take my brand new car apart 15 times and wear out all those damn plastic connectors that always get wore out or broke when you take sutff apart. It took me forever to pick out my components too. good luck

well for several months im going to be just using speakers and the deck, so ill only need to take apart the deck once, and ill install all the speakers once, so i wont be re-arranging things. when i get the amps and stuff, ill prolly just pay someone to put them in because i dont have the time to hassle with it anymore.

Well good luck choosing a HU and the rest of your system later. You will prob have to get a powered deck then instead of the tuner. I still really like the jvc for the price. I think the buttons are in simple places and they have always done me right.

I am heading down to the big KY to visit some ladies. And then to my home town for x-mas. So have fun and enjoy your new HU. I will check the boards later to see which one you picked.

Hopefully when it is time to put the rest of the system in I (and everyone else) will get to suggest some stuff. (if you need help deciding) lata

whats the difference between the two? they look good enough to me :D prolly what ill get

Hmm...I don't know what the difference is. I like the colors on the 9815 better. :D

As always, 1stMP3 in NH is the one to ask about the subtleties! :p

I guess I'll be the residednt Clarion guy, seems my place alot lately. Sorry to all of those for whom this is a broken record, but Check out the DXZ835MP I just got one for my girl at Indoaudio.com they just knocked the prices down on 'em a good bit. It's the only deck I could find that does Plays MP3's and has dual 24bit DAC's.

Honestly I initially Got mine just 'cause it wasn't horribly expensive, and it'd tide me over until I managed to scrape together a DVD setup, but I've since learned to love this deck. (and I've had ALOT of diff decks) You could save a couple bucks here (I think you can get one shipped forlike just over 250 right now.) and drop the buck fifty in the speaker/amp/sub fund.

Only difference is that the 9815 has blue buttons and display and i-Personalize while the 9813 has green buttons/display and does not have i-Personalize.

i-Personalize is basically a thing on Alpine's website where you can go in and setup your radio settings like time correction, eqs, crossovers and opening displays. Then you burn that stuff to a CD and when you play that CD on the deck, it records those settings and updates your deck accordingly.

ALso check out the 9811, which is the same as the 9813 only with 50watt output instead of 60 as the other two are. That'd be a good one if you don't care about the green buttons and are planning on an external amp for speakers anyway.

Keep in mind, Alpine decks are XM ready and not Sirius ready. In order to use Sirius, you'd need an FM modulator. I'd HIGHLY recommend Sirius over XM after hearing it in a friend's car the other day. Just a better variety of music in my opinion.

Welcome home.

i wouldnt get either of those xm type crap i never listen to the radio. but thanks for the clarification.

i looked at the 9811 but it doesnt mention preouts or sub controls

nevermind i saw it i somehow missed it. so other than the personalize thing, the different colored buttons, and the 60-50w (which doesnt matter in the future), is it worth my extra 100 bucks?

ok so this is what i was looking at so far:

Alpine 9811

now how about some suggestions on the tweeters, 5x7, and 6 (or 6.5inch if cutting the rain gaurd is pretty easy - you tell me :D ) - i was thinking infinity speakers. i saw some 5x7s and 6.5 inch on ebay brand new, but they both seemed to come with tweeters and im not really that good with deciphering all that crap. someone help!
