Shaking saddam's hand back then was in our best interest?? The only argument you could make for that was that he was killing iranians...are biggest enemy second to USSR at the time. The funny thing is, when saddam started to get the upper hand in the war, we sold weapons to Iran (iran contra scandal).

I disagree that it is in our interest to fund both sides of a war...just because we like to see muslims kill each other. Friends and enemies do change, but the memories of the last 50 years of US involvement in the middle east has not gone away. Those various generations who were ****** by us one way or the other...be it having their governments overthrown or attacked with weapons we provided to their bad rulers...are still around to remember, even though we may forget.

And by the way, our benevolence towards the axis germany/japan after ww2 was one of the greatest things this nation ever did.
