anyone know how to stop IE from closing when you download a file?

the smartass answer would be to stop pushing the X in the top right hand corner of the window.

I looked through ALL the options/settings of IE lastnight when I read this....and I can't find anything, I can't find anything pertaining to downloads at all.....with the exception of getting or not getting a notification when a download is complete.

are you talking about the small download window that opens when you get a file or the actual parent window of IE?

if its just the little download window that keeps closing on you, there is a little checkbox in the bottom left of that download window which says something like "close this window when download finishes". just uncheck it - it should remember your last choice each time.

ok the thing is that when i let say got to download.com and do a search for media player. i click the download file and it will bring up a new window for download status then it will automatically close my search window.....

Um, you're saying that when you download a file from any site that it closes the regular IE window? Or is it just that site, which may have programming dictating such a close. Does it close all IE windows? try going to several different sites, downloading from one of them, and seeing if the rest stay open. IF they do, then it's the dowload host site that's the problem.

just that ie window where the link is located..... it does it on all sites.....

Ok I'm about as confused as anyone else here on exactly the problem...however if it's a matter of the download window closing, then do the following:

Click on Tools in your IE menu bar
Now select Internet Options at the bottom of the menu list
Click on the Advanced tab at the top of the Internet Options Window
I'm using IE 5.5 so yours *may* vary, but in the list of options there should be an option "Notify when Downloads Complete" - turn that option on and select OK.

You should now be notified at the end of downloads...if this is completely not what you wanted...well then I'll need more info.
