Ideas for a cooler air conditioner

Don't forget to make sure that the A/C fan is working too. If that bastard doesn't kick on, you'll get nothing.

if you just replaced ur hose and had the ac line off for a while and u ran it down to no freon (134a) you should of replaced ur receiver drier, and check your compressor, other then that u cant get it too cool or you will freeze ur evaporator up.

Im not sure what a "receiver drier" is, but after i replaced the leaking a/c line with a brand new one, i took the car to Midas to have the lines checked and refilled the freon or "134a".

jsut to chime in here......

i dont think it was mentioned

but turn it on recycle. that way you A/C is taking the slightly colder aire and making ti colder and so on.

jsut a shot in the dark but has all fuses been checked?

I just checked it last night. Even happens to be the right fuse at 15amps. I check the fins of the condenser to see if the bent or damage and the look to be in very good condition. I never could find any electrical plug anywhere along the lines or on the condenser. And, yes, the fan turns on automatically when i turn the a/c on. Im not sure of anything else to do, but possible...call midas and see exactly how they do their a/c recharge.

Ive tried that, and that seems to be the only way to get the a/c to blow hard. Thanks for helping though!(thumb)

Yeah, i dont have that problem that most p5 have (knock on wood!) with their a/c. Its turns on at 1,2,3,and 4.

Mine won't come on sometimes at 2 or 3 when the car is hot, for instance, after it has been sitting in the sun for a couple of hours. 1 and 4 still work, and after blasting at 4 for a while 3 will work again too. I don't think this is just a connection issue - the fan runs at 2 and 3 even if the AC light goes out. I recrimped the fan connectors at both ends (at the dash and at the fan) and it made no difference.

Take it somewhere and get the pressure checked, is your compressor coming on? also note its not freon, its now 134a.

Correct and still incorrect.
Freon is a brand name belonging to DuPont.
Freon has become the common term to refer to refrigerant gas.
R134a is a refrigerant gas that has a lot in common with R12.
By the way if you think R134a is a liquid, it is when under pressure.

its the "filter" for ac systems, gets contaminants out and water, if u leave ur ac system with no freon or too little or open for to long ur receiver drier sucks up all the moister in the air

Thank you Bill Nye. LOL :)

Reguardless of the technical terms, i'd still like to see some pressure readings to know whats going on first, possibly overcharged, oh and r134a can be dispensed both as a gas or a liquid, depending on which end of the tank your dispensing from.

You have the connection issue you need to do the how to. The green a/c light will turn off and the fan will still blow. But you wont have a/c. Thats what this problem is all about.

I did the How To, it made No Difference. Possibly there is still an issue inside the switch, but there is just no way that the recrimped connections at the cable are not making an adequate electrical connection. On my car positions 2 and 3 only fail when the car has been sitting in the sun for a long time before I start it. My impression is that people who have the typical 2,3 issue, which is solved by fixing the cable connection on that back, have problems with the 2 and 3 positions at all times.

It's funny...before I left for the desert back in May 06...my AC worked.
Got back in Sep and it worked then quit. Thought it just needed a refresh.
So I added the freon and it worked for a while longer. Winter came & I used the heat. I left for my present location in Feb and left the car with a friend of mine. He now claims my compressor is shot. What do you guys think?
Think I have a leak or has the pump taken a dump. Of course....I can't tell for sure because I'm not there and won't be back til Feb 09...lol.
