I want to replace my Carpet

So, today, I realized that my carpet is a little shabby looking in a few places, so I though about having it replaced at mazda and see if they would do it under warranty, or have it done custom, and have something a little higher quality done.

What do you guys think, and how much would it cost to have custom carpets laid down?

If you're looking to replace the carpet then I'd go with something of a better quality that will last longer. The OEM carpet is basically molded fiberboard with a felt like material on it...... not really "carpet". I haven't seen too many aftermarket carpets outside of having an upholstery shop do your car. I certainly wouldn't pay the dealer to just outsource my car to a specialist as I'm sure they'll charge you more for it.

The install would involve you removing the console and seats, and cutting the holes for the floor vents/seat bolts, but you should be able to do it yourself. They have some great pictures on there comparing the different carpet trims. The owner of that site actually has a Mz3 and used his car to make the carpet mold.

thanks, i'll be sure to check that site out, If i did it, I would pay to have it done, because I have no experience, and want it done at a professional level. That said, I would'nt take it to the dealer because of that, but the reason I mentioned the warranty, is because my factory stuff is a bit torn from God knows what in odd places.

i guess one of the positive things is the sound deadening...but i wonder if it's any better than laying down some dynamat or special paint

I did think about dynamat, but for the doors. The carpet would most likely be sound deadening, but I want it because the factory stuff looks bad in my opinion. Also, I find it hard to clean/vacuum.

I've noticed that as well about the carpet. I'm having a tough time getting little pebbles and stuff out of the crevices around the dead pedal. It looks like the carpet has worn away or has ground in dirt. I'm gonna clean it as best I can and see if I can apply some black dye to the carpet.

I am pretty surprised on the pricing for it. Might have to be something I do if I keep the car for the long haul.

Edit: Not getting rid of it anytime soon.

It's not too bad, considering that it's a full carpet set. Also, you do have to have it insatlled if you don't want to DIY, but all in all, it wouldn't bee that bad. I'm more surprised by the fact that there is actually a site
devoted to JUST carpets for 3's and MS3's

It might help somewhat, but it won't replace having actual vibration and sound deadening material underneath it. Honestly sound deadening-wise you'd get much more overall reduction in noise by doing the floor and roof than you would with the doors, yet most people only door doors. Beyond that there are lots of companies out there with comparable (or better) products to dynamat that are much cheaper.

friend of a friend totally stripped his FD and used a type of rubbery paint all along the inside and underside, engine bay, everything. don't know if he's done it yet but he also plans on having cushy suspension and thick bushings everywhere cuz it's supposed to be his "comfy" rx7 (he's got another one with like 450+whp
