i need your advice...

ok here's the situation...on monday night i got a ticket for squealing my tires...kind of a sucky situation...my first ticket and i'm really pissed off about it...the cop was like "why are you peeling out are you trying to race"...in reality i was sitting at a stop light with nobody on my left or right and i didn't see the light turn green, my natural reaction was to push the gas in a panic but with manual transmission that means squealing...anyways...the ticket carries a small fine but doesn't qualify for traffic school...so i could fight the ticket in court to get it off my record...or just pay the fine...whatelse can i do...do you guys think i should fight it?? do you think i stand a chance if i fight it?? oh yeah did i mention a sucky situation i'm alone in the car so it's basically me vs. cop which isn't good...

Bad luck happens to us all!

I know how you feel, you really didn't mean to do that, the cop saw you in a sports compact and thought you were up to no good.

In Texas, I am not certain how it is in Arizona, or even Tempe, but you can get a traffic lawyer to appeal the ticket and get you some sort of "warning" or "probation" but you can't get a ticket again within a time frame. You pay the traffic attorney like $50 or what, and then I think you pay the city that you get the ticket in. So you're dishing out $150 but you don't get this on your record and it's a good way to avoid court.

I would suggest you try to fight it as well as it sounds like it was just an honest mistake. I know when I first got the MP3 I did the accidental tire squeal because I just punched the gas too much before releasing the clutch(my first manual). At least here, there is a free number that can help get you off on tickets...ask around there might be the same sorta deal in your town and they might have some advice for you.

think the general agreement is to fight this thing..."take it to city hall"hehe. but really, tell the judge it's your first stick-shift, how would they know the difference?

sounds like a plan to me as well.....I have noticed that I can squeel my tires without even trying!! especially if its pretty warm outside...the asphalt gets pretty slippery in places.

Not to mention that your tires are softer too...(in the heat)

Sounds like great ideas but judges are not dumb. If you make up something stupid, they will throw the book at you, I have done it and the judge basically told me to pay the fine or go to jail or take defensive driving.

Also, remember, if you have to fight it, it may take away time from work, which may or may not be worth it.

yeah i've been contemplating it...some ppl think i stand a chance and the judge will understnad...and others don't...i'm trying to calculate it...the time i spend in court will be the money for the fine...i'm not worried about the fine...more so the points i get and the possible insurance hike...i'm starting to think i'll just pay the fine...

Take it to court first and watch how he treats others before you. If you think the judge will be non-sympathetic then you can also claim your guiltiness.
