I just got my intercooler in the mail!!!!

I hope you have a new stiffer MM because Ive read that someone broke there plastic over the cowl from the 3.5" TMI hitting it from hard shifts.
On a side note I wish I had a new IC because the stock one suxs..

I had this problem too !! the Dremmel drill took care of it .

and if you think gr3y knows what he's talking about then I pity you.

Whoa.. somebody woke up on the wrong side of the bed, huh?

If you read, I clearly wrote things like "From what I know," and, "In my opinion." Basing it off the basic things that I know/learned (first turbo car, still learning a lot). You don't have to fly off the handle because i'm not an aeronautical engineer here. Thanks for the added info, I appreciate it, but seriously? Chill, son, chill like a FMIC. :P

So did I help you with the air travel issue through the topmount IC? I hope

Yeah, I suppose.. I guess I just didn't see how the airflow is that good because of the stock black covering thing.. what is the point of that black thing anyway?

4. No intercooler on the market (excepting of course liquid to air intercoolers filled with ice water) will be "cold as ice" after running. intercoolers are cooled by AMBIENT air, which means that they will never be colder than the air temperature of the outside air, and since the turbo is trying to heat it up, it'll never even get that cold.

Oh, and for the sake of arguing:

1)I've run my 3.25" thick ETS unit on five different track days here in sunny So.Cal during ambient temps upwards of 100F. I've been absolutely amazed each & every time to feel how utterly cool the TMIC is to the touch immediately after pulling into the pits. That's after running 20 minutes non-stop balls-out. The darn TMIC is actually cool to the touch. Fantastic!

2)I ordered this product because everyone was raving about the power they've been getting, they were right! Not only now does it push you back in your seat, you can also hear the turbo spool at lower RPMs and when I stop the car, open the hood, and feel the intercooler it's like an ice cube even in 90+ degree weather. You want effective gains for the price, look no further then the ETS TMIC.

That's why I asked if it's cold. :P

Installed3.5 today Mine was ICE COLD j/k too but it was 38 outside! Its a shroud for your ram air to make contact with forcing all rammed air through IC Like the one you rec'd with ETS OH yea Im pleased with it even though it has not been proven{ data logged,by me yet] to me. Glad to hear you've good results, makes me feel I made a good choice!

The stock black thingy? I'm confused :(

Has anyone looked at the corksport FMIC? If its a quality intercooler I like there use of the old TMIC mount for a ram air intake setup. I already have a cai so I would not consider purchasing it, but it looks like a nice setup.

When your hood is closed, the black plastic thingy completes or seals the "duct" that allows air coming from in front of your hood to be forced down thru the intercooler. The mesh over this area attempts to prevent rocks and such from bending the fins on your IC with a trade-off of disturbing some of the air flow. You'll notice on WRX's that their fins get bent to hell in the long run because their's are completely bare I believe, and its even easier for rocks to whack them.

The aftermarket IC's like ETC's have that plate around the outside, which looks to me as if its doing the same job, but designed differently, as the black plastic thingy which I think you are reffering to, except there's no rock protection and therefor less-restricted flow. As someone stated on another thread, just use tweezers or needle nose to bend the fins back if you need.

I wouldn't think it would be all that hard to put some type of mesh/screen type material over/in the air ducts in the front to stop rocks/leaves/big ass bugs from flying in and playing tag with the TMIC? Would it?

Honest i have 12,000 miles on the car and the only thing i have found on the intercooler is the ocasional Bee/Fly i have yet to find leaves or rocks and the only bent fin's i have are from placing my hand in the intercooler to get some leverage on installs (hand)(then i go back and fix them ovecourse)

PLM Man That was a most helpful clarification, what I meant to describe sorry gr3y. I did not install ets [shroud plate ?] its finish was less than desirable and I like the idea of some cool air entering engine bay No dings on oem fins if i need advice on the fin work i'll pm sleeper hah. I think this upgrade, 3.5 wil be very effective in the long term build up of this car Andrade08 if you come up w/ something trick on screening let me know peace
