MyZmZm said:I'm not sure I buy into the acetone improving mileage... If you are using it and it seems to be working for you, more power to you. It seems that there are arguments for and against (as with anything), but it's knowing what is fact and what is hype that's not clear. I personally would prefer to have more proven factual info - both immediate and long-term - before trying this for any length of time.
However, the idle on my car has been a little more erratic as of late, and at one point last summer (it was very hot that day), it almost died while stopped at a light. I may give the acetone a try once or twice if it actually does clean out the built-up carbon in the egr and throughout the system. Does anyone know for a fact that this is something the acetone does? What other product(s) will do the same thing?

Jack Daniels said:Here's a thought. If this is such a miracle additive, why don't auto manufacturers demand it be added to all fuel? They're under a huge gun to make their cars get better fuel mileage. Even one MPG accross the board would be a great and significant help.
maxek said:(poke) We had never cared about MPG until recently when gas prices started to hit $3.00 a galon.

PAY the PUMP..
Jack Daniels said:Automakers have been concerned with MPG for quite a long time now. Ever heard of CAFE?
maxek said:I do but I pay way less than you do.
Clarkbug said:And Mr. Daniels... CAFE is a thing that the government started up, not the automakers. Admittedly, the automakers do care about it because their entire fleet has to meet the minimum standards (I dont know if this is what you meant by your statement or not, so please keep the flames low)
rx7mazda said:I think allot of people don't want to try it because of the long-term affects that might have on the hoses and such. I did quite a bit of research a while back about acetone and it's effects on car parts and I remember this one guy put the hoses, plastic, and metal in pure acetone for a week and they didn't corrode or decay at all. I don't think a tiny bit of acetone diluted in such a big capacity of gas would hurt anything anyways.
