i hate my msp

take the vac line going to the wga off and blow into it. If air passes through, it's bad. If you can't blow at all, it's good to go.

ok i just tried that, i have to blow really hard, but some air does pass through. i just ordered a new WGA from *************. how hard is the install on this? is it something i can comeplete in 3 hours or less? if so i can do it in the shop at school, otherwise i will have to do it at home with less tools and it will take much longer.

sounds like the pcv was bad and actually just needed replaced.....

PCV was fine, and was correctly functioning by being open on idle causing the issue. Problem is when the maf is relocated the breather line on the valve cover which originally pulls metered air after the maf is now pulling unmetered air before the maf, on idle. That is unless you put that breather line between the maf and throttle body when doing the relocation, but then you essentially have a direct boost leak pressurizing the bottom end of the motor when in boost. A special pcv valve can be purchased to resolve the issue but they are pricey at ~$100. My fix of venting the pcv to atmosphere worked great with no ill effects for 30k miles and is still working that way since I sold the car 2 years ago.

Also if possible the line to the wastegate should be relocated somewhere after the turbo but before the throttle body. There is a prime location on the bottom of the stock intercooler, where there is a hose barb. I love mazda but they made a big boo-boo by introducing vacuum to the wastegate which causes the diaphragm to wear. Actually I would more likely blame it on Calloway as they designed the whole turbo setup.

Lighten up man I'm going to school to be a tech as well and i still post on here obviously because this is a place for MSP owners and there's plenty of experience with this car platform on here. He's going to school to learn obviously. Not trying to stir things up whatsoever

I knew someone would get BUTT HURT!!!!....FYI the question was NOT directed to YOU....it was directed to the OP who answered without being butt hurt, but thanks for responding for him

lol you throw one code and you hate your car?

Lol... No problem, anytime.

so did you fix the problem and know have huge erections everytime you drive your msp?? boost leaks will ruin your life... untill you fix them :)

waiting on parts, WGA is bad for sure, i think there is leak where the intake meets the turbo as well. we spent about an hour with a smoker and mirrors trying to find if it was coming from both the WGA or the intake and everyone (including my 65 yr old instructor with 50 yrs industry experience) couldnt tell. im hoping the WGA fixes the issue, if not i will have to buy an intake. kind of a bummer after reading threads about how little the MSP is worth nowadays. im still dead set on selling this car, it is my first and only, but im looking to move on to a more reliable platform (mx5) so anything i have to spend on it is dollars off the final sale price. hopefully the WGA will come in sometime in the middle of the week, i start a new course in 2 weeks with a different instructor and im not sure if hes going to give me as much free shop time as my current instructor. on the plus side it looks like i will have mondays and maybe tuesdays to work on my car at work as i was told today when i dropped off my tools that those days are really slow with a lot of sitting around.

It sounds like patience is something you need to practice, it is vital to becoming a good technician.

well replaced the wga, the car drives dramatically better, but there is still hesitation, just a couple little bucks now right after entering boost. monitor the afr trims tomorrow and see if there is anything to be found.

You may need to reset the ecu and let it relearn. Disconnect the battery, then hold the brake pedal for a minute to clear the ECU, then hook the battery back up.
