I got robbed!!!

I just wanted to gripe... My apartment got robbed on Wednesday and they took all my watches and jewelry!!! Stuff that my grandmother left me and had been in the family for generations is all gone now, and what sucks is that it's my birthday today! They didn't take anything big and heavy, just stuff that they could pocket, but I wish it had been the other way around. My jewelry was worth more than all my electronics put together!

The stupid cops said they were going to come by to dust for fingerprints and that I shouldn't clean up the mess until they do. It's been two days, and they haven't showed up yet. I hate having to be constantly reminded of the event by the fact that my place looks like it just happened. I doubt that the cops will come over the weekend, so I still won't be able to clean up. :bs: There goes my celebrating...

That's all... just wanted to b**** about it. Miss you guys... gotta run now.

Oh, man. So sorry to hear this. See, you need the MOJO from this board!

Happy (really) birthday!:D

Thanks, Bob...

I just got home from dinner and a nice night out... feeling a bit better about it, but I still had to come home to the mess.:( Hopefully the cops come on Monday so I can put this all behind me.

I sure hope you had renters insurance. I remember when I lived in Michigan, there had been a series of break ins in my apartment complex. Shortly after, all the tenants recieved a renters insurance information guide. Sorry to hear about what happened.

I just got the brochure in the mail and was about to fill it out, but unfortunately not in time... Plus, the jewelry that I had was all gifts and things I inherited from my grandmother. No receipts for that sort of thing, know what I mean?

Yes I do Ari.....for all their value is in your heart....not your purse. They can never be replaced...only returned. I am very sorry to hear about your misfortune. :{(

shame, why do people do those terrible things. Just hope that those bastards will get what's coming too them...(use your imagination)...such precious things are lost, but like sir nuke says all the memories you have of them will be in your heart.

I know it sucks that they took the stuff...Renter's insurance doesn't need reciepts to cover the value, you determine the value. Things raise in cost and depreciate, etc...But that is besides the point.

I'm sorry your stuff got stolen...It really sucks. The sentimental value far out weighs replacement value, I know.

On the bright side though, at least you didn't come home in the middle of the event and get hurt.

Happy Birthday, and I hope you have a better night...

God must have been watching over me that day cause it was the first and only time I ever worked overtime. I came home a little later than usual, so I like to think that it kept me from coming home in the middle of it.

I hope that somewhere out there those jerks are getting what they deserve. Maybe they'll get caught and will have my stuff with them. Who knows... it's a long shot, but stranger things have happened.

Ari, they will....get what they deserve....sooner or later....its called Karma, and "what goes around, comes around".... you may not ever see it happen...but it will. Take solice in that if you can.

(stash)

Man, I'm glad I have renter's insurance. Sorry to hear about that Ari...do you know how they got in? Was it through sliding glass doors?

Anyway, get that insurance ASAP.
:(

Wow Ari that's a truly sucky thing that happened to you. It's unfair that there is so much bad crap in this world and nothing we can really do about it for the most part.

I'd like to wish you a belated Happy Birthday tho. It sounds like at least that was cheerful.

Keep in mind that the material possessions are just thought. Nobody can ever steal your memories of your friends and family.

Hope things turn around and look better for you soon!

Sorry to hear that dude....

Beleive it or not go to a few local pawn shops.... you might actually find what you had lost... It will be a weird feeling and all seeing those things and havign to pay for them.. but I am sure if you can prove it to the cops that the things are yours... not to sure how it works... but it's worth a try since those things mean the world to you....

When I was broken into the feeling of being violated was huge.... and this was only my car... I was so mad... but what made it worst was the fact of having a cd that was given to me by my gf taken.... it was too weird for me... having some low life having no respect for you.... gggrrr.....

Insurance is there to aid you financially and try and reduce some of the stress of being violated... but they can' unfortunatly return your home feeling... or your sentimental valuables... it's tough...

As you pointed out... something positive came out of it... you worked OT.. and you where not there when it happened.... cause your life might have been at stake if you did pop onto them....

Hope it all works out... ;)

Thanks to everyone for all your kind words... My birthday turned out to be great despite the bad stuff that happened right before it. I spent the entire weekend with family and friends, goin out, and celebrating. I still have one more get together for my birthday next weekend! Talk about an extended celebration!!!

Anyway, there were no broken windows or any damage to my door, so that was kind of scary. It seemed like someone had a key to my place cause I have a deadbolt and those are almost impossible to pick! What freaked me out even more was that my landlord lives in San Diego (an hour and a half away) and he's kinda old, so he wasn't able to change my locks until his regular weekend visit with his son. You can imagine how poorly I slept until then! Just lucky I'm friends with all my apartment neighbors, so I wasn't too alone!

Ari,
I am really sorry to hear about this! Damn, My house was broken into last year on Veteran's day, and what the idiots didn't steal, they broke... They were brazen enough to kick my carport door in and take their sweet time during the day! The feeling of violation was horrible, and like you said, I didn't really sleep to well for a while after that. On top of everything, they stole all a few guns, so I basically made some well armed criminals in case they wanted to come back. Also, they took gun solvent and bathroom cleaner and dumped it on all my clothes that they took out of the closet. There wasn't anything they didn't mess with. Oh well, now I have built my car-port into a garage, got a security system, and insurance out the wazoo...I still get a paranoid feeling sometimes still though.

At any rate, I am really sorry this happened, and I hope that you are feeeling better about it now. Even if you had insurance, it wouldn't make much difference. I got screwed so bad from my insurance, (Nationwide homeowners SUCKS), that I would have been better off just starting over from scratch for all my stuff.

That is good you weren't home, sounds like somebody upstairs was lookin' out for ya'. :) At any rate, I hope you are feeling better about it now. Take care!

Later,
Will

PS> (Happy Birthday, by the way. ;) )

Thanks, fastdrvr... sorry to hear that it happened to you too. :(

The cops finally called me today to arrange for them to dust my apartment tommorrow. It's been a week since it happened and they only called now! I still haven't been able to clean up since they advised against it. Hopefully I can start tomorrow after they look for prints.

Actually, I treat my office like a crime scene...nothing gets moved just in case!
