I got robbed!!!

I hope that somewhere out there those jerks are getting what they deserve. Maybe they'll get caught and will have my stuff with them. Who knows... it's a long shot, but stranger things have happened.

Dont worry, Ari, they are. As someone who used to steal all the time as a kid (I even did some stupid s*** like what happened to you), I can tell you that one away or another, they pay. I paid in daily guilt. Also, if someone is robbing from houses, chances are their life probably isnt all that good at that point. Lots of folks steal to support a drug habit, or to make some ends to eat. I robbed to eat, and to buy myself something nice every once in a while. If you're robbing houses chances are your life completely sucks. You on the other hand, while you've been violated by these folks (or this folk), have a job, a loving family, no addictions (we hope), and a bunch of folks on this board that watch over you. Although the sentimental value of the family heirlooms is great, you're still way ahead of the people who robbed you. They are paying every day.
And if it's any comfort, they're either already in jail, or gonna go soon. If you rob enough houses, you eventually get caught (I did).
BE happy:)

Here's the latest update...

After a week of waiting, a guy shows up at my place to dustt for finger prints... he takes out this little feather thingy that's loaded with charcoal and proceeds to dust the things I tell him were disturbed. Anyway, he doesn't seem to really be looking thoroughly, almost as if he's just going through the motions to make me think that my tax dollars are actually going somewhere. It takes him only eight minutes to go through my entire apartment, only to say that there were no good prints anywhere cause all my cabinets are wood. He said it was sorry it happened and that was it. He left, and my case is over.

I was hoping for more of an investigation than that, especially when I told him that my neighbor saw two strangers in the courtyard that morning and could describe one of them very well. He didn't even pause to take any new information. Oh well... I'm bugged, but what can I do?(argh)

Call (or better yet) visit your local station house. If possible bring your neighbor. Ask to talk to whoever has the top rank in the house.

Bob beat me to the answer. Ask to speak with the either the detective supervisor or at least the shift supervisor and ask them what the deal is.

Talking to a supervisor will get a little more action, but if its a big city, and very few leads, I hate to say it, but there won't be much in the way of an investigation.

Tell your neighbor next time s/he sees wierdos drooling around the complex and they look like they don't belong, call the cops ASAP...Chances are probably half way decent that if they got away with it once, they'll be back soon.

If someone sees them and calls the cops right away, they might get caught in the act, or in the very least caught being someplace where they shouldn't be.

They sound about like the guys here. The officer that showed up at my house when I called that night said that none of the surfaces would pull up anything. They could have at least tried, I asked if he had a fingerprinting kit in his car (I was an MP for 4 years in the guard) and he said no.

Anyways, it has almost been a year since I was robbed, and I have never heard another peep from the sheriff's office. They had a few more patrols the week it happened, but that was about all that came out of it. One funny thing is how quick they responded though when I called that night. I had just gotten home from work to find my carport door kicked off the hinges... I took the handgun out of my car and checked the whole house real carefully before I called the police. I had called them previously because of a stalled car near my house. It took them almost 2 hours to get there, so I figured I would hurry the process up.

When I called 911, the conversation went something like this:

911 Operator: What is your Emergency?
Me: Someone robbed my house at ....... Address.
911 Operator: Are they still in your house?
Me: I sure hope so... I haven't really checked yet.
911 Operator: You need to leave and wait at a neighbors..
Me: Nah, it's ok, I have a handgun...I'll find them.
911 Operator: Silence for about 30 seconds. The police will there soon...
Me: Ok...*Hung-up*

The officer showed up in about 5 minutes. At any rate, he was a nice guy, but they didn't do too much, if any investigation.

I hope things go better for you Ari. :) Maybe they will catch the theives by some miracle or something, and you can get some of your stuff back. The feelings of violation seemed to have faded a good bit for me now, so hopefully you will feel better soon too. Anyways, good luck.

Well.... I was pretty upset about the whole thing, but, WOW, Gro Harlem, I wasn't that mad! I want them to get their punishment, but murder is a bit harsh! Even if they didn't get punished, I'd be happy just to get my stuff back, especially the pieces that my grandmother left me.:'(
